Not only the man responsible for all of Morecambe and Wise's scripts, and Ken Dodd's early success, but also a former trialist for LFC, a lifelong Red and a genuinely lovely man. One of the great Scouse talents of the 1960s and 70s, up there in his own modest way with Lennon and McCartney for what he contributed.
