Ideally Brighton to beat Man Utd and Newcastle.

The down side of that is if Brighton win all their games they’ll finish above us!

Say if we win tomorrow, Brighton beat the mancs and then we beat Brentford, although they’ll have 2 games in hand, the gap will be 1 point - they might get twitchy then.

Win tomorrow and hope for the best. Can’t do anything more. Feels like we’re clasping at straws now but we still need to do our job.

C'mon the Seagulls!

Although looking at their fixtures...

Man Utd - H

Everton - H

Arsenal - A

Newcastle - H

Southampton - A

Man City - H

Villa - A

...I actually want them to win most of them !!!

Given the mancs and Newcastle look to be in the CL, what position goes the UEFA Cup go down to? Assume the League Cup and FA Cup UEFA Cup entries will go to league positions?

5th or 6th for certain if West Ham doesn't win this new tournament. Winner will be qualifeid for next year's EL. If West Ham qualifies I think only 5th will be in the EL. Could it be West Ham and 2 other teams? Don't think so, but I'm not absolutely sure.

The League cup winner would ordinarily qualify for the Europa Conference league.

The mancs only have to win three of their six remaining games to finish on 72 points, the most we can get is 71. They’ve got home games against Wolves and Chelsea which are guaranteed victories, their other home game is against Fulham who are a little better but have nothing to play for.

I think we could have caught them if Villa had got something at Old Trafford but we’re just too far behind with too few games remaining now.

This win the Bournemouth game and Konate edges that ball over the line and we would have done it.

If we were just three points better off I think there’s a good chance that the Mancs would shit their draws, especially with our superior goal difference. As it is I can’t see them not getting the 9 points they need from the five games below:

West Ham away

Wolves home

Bournemouth away

Chelsea home

Fulham home

While it is still unlikely, win on Saturday and we’re certainly breathing down their necks / giving them something to think about.

I mentioned it earlier in the thread - 99/00, we had more or less sewn it up and then we didn’t score in the last 5 games and blew it. Leicester have blown it a couple of times from similar positions.

Just win our games and be there to pounce if an above mentioned collapse does occur.

Don't do this to yourself lads. Its the hope that kills you.

Mancs won't drop many points and we won't win the remaining 4. I hope Brighton will drop enough for us to finish 4th and secure EL which is missing from Klopp's collection.

If result go our way this weekend , we might be chasing the mancs and the pot bellied pigs.

That's where I'm at too - we will finish within 3 points of either the Mancs or Newcastle, and I'll spend the entire summer rocking back and forth sayiing 'Fucking Leeds. At fucking Anfield.'

We haven't been paying much attention for obvious reasons but generally the race for 4th is about teams falling over themselves to lose out on it. Even last night the Mancs were using the language of a team feeling the pressure.

If ourselves and Man Utd were so caught up in the battle and ended up dropping out of the top 4 only for Brighton to slip into the last spot I think I'd just laugh and congratulate them.

It's all bolox anyway.  I long for a massive global football collapse and we end up back with a European Cup with just all league winners in there, and a UEFA Cup with 2nd and 3rd place and a Cup Winners Cup.

Really should have noticed since we fell into it quite easily two years ago when we wrote that season off as well.
