I'm just surprised Tyler and Carragher didn't find the time to praise Newcastle's fitness team. After all, the impact they've had is extraordinary - from everyone in the team collapsing multiple times at Anfield last autumn from cramp, to only one player needing a single foot bend to be back on his feet late on in yesterday's game. What a transformation in just a few months. Maybe we can poach a couple of those specialists in the summer.

No doubt been mentioned in the thread but last night I thought Carragher was unbearable, if you didn't know the game in this country and was listening you'd have him down as an ex Newcastle player.

Yes. I really don't know why Sky, especially, seem to believe that using ex-players to comment on their own clubs is a good idea.

The neutrals will surely think they're being biased in favour of their old teams, and the fans of their old teams will often think they're over-compensating so much to seem impartial they're actually being biased against their old teams.

I can't see who thinks it's a positive thing. Personally I'd ban Neville from covering the mancs and Carra from covering us. It's just irritating all round.

On the feed on my Vn cable service (£6.62/month including unlimited high speed internet), their feed usually involves Jim Beglin who always sees the good in the opposition and the flaws and mistakes in us.

Last Monday night (3am on Tuesday for me) I got cunt Tyler alongside him. Luckily, the sound balance was fucked and they were barely audible. I watched it on replay the next morning so I could rewind etc. Bastards had fixed the balance and I had mute it.

That was such a fantastic result for us.  Ignoring the performance, and particularly the defending, it's a real pleasure to watch Nunez - he's fucking brilliant; unpredictable, terrifies their defenders, provides some real defensive quality of his own, and scored a proper good goal.  He may even overtake Jota as my fave attacking player.

We haven't been amazing, but the difference in attacking pace and intent in the last two matches is very noticeable.  How much of that is down to Thiago not being in the team or the return of Nunez remains to be seen.

The Thiago thing occurred to me against Everton too, but while we nearly always beat Everton at Anfield, yesterday was only Newcastle’s second defeat.

Maybe we’re playing a bit more directly in his absence, taking a pass or two less in midfield, giving the opposition less time to settle. If so, it’s working well.

I’ve been following football for well over 40 years. Seen thousands of matches at top level. That one is possibly the worst piece of refereeing I’ve seen.

Thing is because it wasn't a penalty decision or a game changer it will just go mostly under the radar. It is wholly unacceptable it should be case - was a bad challenge.

As I say only thing I can think of is was there an offside otherwise it makes zero sense.

Except yesterday we were crying out for someone like him to put there foot on the ball and dictate the play instead of rushing everything and giving the impression Newcastle were more in the game than they were because they were able to break with two quick players.

That hasn’t traditionally been our style under Klopp, though. Our most successful campaigns were about having three ferociously busy central midfielders, constantly harassing the opposition. I get that things have to evolve, but just because Fabinho and Henderson have been poor doesn’t mean that Thiago is a perfect match.

not really.  In fact not at all.  Thiago gets the ball forward more quickly than anyone else in the team.  The difference was that Newcastle were leaving areas of space for our forwards to move into.  Henderson didn't hit one forward pass all game (actually he hit one).  Fabinho not much more than that.  Most of their passes were back to the back four and the threat was coming from Trent primarily with long balls into the acres of space Newcastle were leaving.

We didn't have control over the midfield, and we got away with poor defending on a number of occasions.  The result was fantastic, and I'm all for putting the sports washers back in their box, at least for a while.

We seem to have been unable far too often to find the balance between the two extremes.

We are either reasonably compact, measured and controlled - but toothless...or we have a cutting edge and create, but are open and game management is terrible.

It IMO all comes down to the mix, the balance in midfield just not being quite right enough whatever 3 we pick....It is so often less effective than the sum of its parts.

For someone who moves the ball forward so quickly, why doesn’t he have a single assist this season?
