Summer 2019 Transfer Thread

With Man City the target, we won’t come anywhere near as close next season if we fail to significantly upgrade the squad. We’ve been an injury away from falling off the pace for most of the season, whereas City can discard De Bruyne & Fernandinho without skipping a beat.

If the rumours are true, we have to be happy with a vintage Arsenal top four slot next time around.

And the bait has been floated -- now we wait.

You know what, that was too far, although the pessimism isn’t without good reason given what’s followed our last two title challenges. Here: we’ll have to be happy with a ‘best of the rest’ scenario, but it’ll probably be at least 10-15 points behind City if we fail to significantly upgrade the squad.

Didn't want any big sales anyway

Would be quite happy with several smaller ones (and releases).

Mignolet, Bogdan, Karius, Clyne, Lovren, Moreno, Lallana, Sturridge, Ings, and all the various ressies that haven't got a hope in hell of ever playing for the first team.

Do they have zero chance of being at least squad filler next season?

Can't say I've watched either of them play.

They probably do, but from their perspective they both need to move on for the sake of their careers. If we want to stay at the level we are at I  don't see either of them making it here.

True. But we need some people to pad the squad out. Probably easier if it's three or four from the academy though.

Klopp has kind of avoided sending players on loan that he actually wants to use and that are not in their teens, Origi being the exception. He has often said he doesnt particularly like the concept of loaning players, so the fact he has for those two kind of implies something maybe.

Both of them have performed really well for their clubs. To me, that means we should sell them to the highest bidder, maybe with a buy-back clause but its hard to tell what the actual plan is for both of them.

Who in the academy, or reserves, has the most chance of making it and could they be part of the squad next season.

I'd just rather we bought two top class players than four or five to plug the squad.

I'd be delighted with a versatile forward good enough to challenge up front and a good full back who could cover both sides. Other than that just plug the gaps if any of our first team squad leave.

He didn’t make “a good pass versus Barca”, he dominated the game against Madrid with the likes of Kroos and Modric in the team.

Winks in particular was brilliantly assertive in that first half. The purring over his best moments has tended to centre on his “calmness”, the ability to appear unfazed by being asked to pass and receive a football, a level of praise for a basic elite skill that tells you all you need to know about recent English midfields.

Here he was up against a midfield powerhouse, arguably the top three in the world in their roles: Casemiro, king of suffocation; Toni Kroos, a wonderful passer; and Luka Modric a footballer who looks like he was born on the half‑turn, able to twist and turn and pause and do pretty much anything he wants with the ball.

In the back row of the press seats Spanish radio called the game with its usual pitch of enthusiasm, spitting out the names. Winks. Kane. Winks. There were a lot of Winkses. And there is so much to like about a player who makes the game feel this calm and orderly. Best of all Winks will often just stop and watch, reading where the ball might go next. Every team need a player like this. Given the current level of competition it seems self-evident Winks should get another chance to start in central midfield for England.

Damian Plessis.

That is all!

Seen a few rumours that we won't be spending much at all this summer. The club can fuck off if they think we don't need to add to the squad and just rely on youth players coming through. We have a chance to put some distance between us and the rest of the top six apart from City.

We can't rely on the front 3 and Van Dijk to play 50 games without injury. No excuses not to buy a couple of top class additions with the amount the club has earned and the amount of players who will be sold.

and how many times have we heard that? Klopp on day 1 said he wont spend big on players yet has broken 2 records for a defender and keeper along the way.But on the other hand we do have a few good young lads coming through

We are a better team with Trent at full back. As I said loads of posts back, any improvement Gomez is, is lost elsewhere and we're a lesser team. So the fact Gomez wins more headers just doesn't matter.

That’s not what you said though is it.
