Allardyce says Rooney and Sigurdsson can’t play in same team: “In terms of covering the ground, (they) are very shrewd, very clever and talented players, but it’s difficult. It's not their strength. So I have to make a big decision on who plays this one and who plays the next one

This from the man who claimed he would be more suited to manage Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Man Ure, Chelski and would win the Double or the league every year .

I don't think he's wrong about that. Sigurdsson became a useless signing once they got Rooney. Maybe you could play both in the middle in a 4-3-3 but it's a big stretch. It was really poor work in the market.

It was the other way round wasn't it? They spent a huge wad on Sigurdsson after they'd already decided to pay Rooney a big wage. Very odd

Sam managing expectations, much to the annoyance of... ...well, just about everyone supporting EFC.

I think he has to say that. If they're clear of a relegation fight (which they pretty much are) then what is the point of Sam Allardyce?

Celebrating the Dan Gosling goal which was over ten years ago is very desperate. I thought they were a big club who had won the league 9 times, FA Cup 5 times and the first club to have goal nets.

From memory hadn’t ITV cut to an advert when the goal went in? Presumably some sort of conspiracy.

Council tax in Liverpool looks set to increase by nearly 6% as city leaders warn they are staring over a “financial cliff edge.”

Mayor Joe Anderson will address the full council tonight and say that he has no choice but to raise the tax residents pay by the maximum allowed - which is 5.99% - as he desperately tries to plug funding gaps in key areas such as social care brought about by continued government cuts to local authority budgets.

The news comes as the council reveals a “crisis” in children’s social care will mean that it will overspend on its budget this year by nearly £6 million - a number which will then double the year after.

If the rise is agreed at March’s budget meeting, it will mean a resident in an average Liverpool property - known as Band D - will pay nearly £105 extra each year.

The predicted council tax increase will include a 2.99 % rise to fund council services, while the further 3 % increase will be ringfenced entirely for the city’s struggling social care services.

In mooting the potential rise, Mayor Anderson has laid bare the bleak financial position the council finds itself in after eight years of government austerity.

But now onto other business, spunking hundreds of millions on a football stadium.

Thankfully they bought Everton's training ground, and have the club paying the council a few bags of Real McCoy's in rent.
