Am I the only one to actually think Scales was a great player, just really unlucky with injuries?

He was easily the best CB we had back then, not that it says much though.

No you aren't. He had all the credentials to be a top class centre back for us and put in the bracket just below Jockey and Lawro. However, because of injuries and the short time he spent with us, he will be remembered as the bloke who was nearly as good as Mark Wright.

I liked Scales as a player, he looked composed, decent in the air, comfy on the deck, could move with the ball and had some pace about him.

He was awesome in the 94/95 season. Went down hill quite quickly after that though.

I seem to remember once Redknapp changed his number from 15 to 11, and Scales from 12 to 3, they both spent more time on the injury table than the pitch.

In fact, bar one great season in 96/97, Fowler went the same way when he swapped number 23 for number 9. McManaman too to a certain extent swapping 17 to 7.

A lesson for any kids coming through the ranks. Or more likely just a ridiculous coincidence and I'm talking shite.
