Up in the air- Another disappointing film, started off pretty good but as soon as the film changed direction it got boring. Clooney and that blonde annoyed me with their oh look we're such a cool couple and even though there was a small twist it still didn't save it.

The film was going along nicely until Clooney went home.

6 smug twats out of 10.

When you say he "went home", you mean he bummed her, don't you?

A Serious Man - 6 confused downtrodden Jews out of 10

I trudged through this and at the hour mark, checked how much was remaining, and again 15 minutes later. But I stayed with it, in the hope that the end would bring its meaning and make sense of what had gone before

It didn't.

As usual, with the Coen Brothers, the acting, the cinematography and all the other elements were really good. Alas, the story started with some potential, but then just went nowhere. I suspect that a deeper understanding of Jewish culture is advised, and maybe even necessary.

Ooo does it have the breakdown of the taxi CGI?? I might buy it on the strength of that as it stood out for me at the cinema.

Yes it does. It's got a 15 min documentary of the vissual effects wich covers the taxi scene and a lot of other scenes that I didn't think of when I watched the film, not even the second time, wich is also CGI.

I absolutely was dumbfounded when watching that taxi scene. Then I realised it was subtle CGI, the way it should be used.

Carriers 7.5/10

Starring the guy who played Kirk in the new Star Trek, it's about a post apocalyptic world where a virus has infected most of the population and two brothers and two girls are trying to survive and find a safe place to ride it out.

I like these kind of films and this one is pretty good, definitely worth a watch.

It made an actor out of Matt Daaamon.

His four movies prior to that were Dogma, Rounders, Saving Private Ryan and Good Will Hunting. Fairly sure he was going alright before then!

That is total bullshit. Are you South African? Is there something about the way the South African accent is portrayed by the South African actors you can tell us that we've missed? Otherwise you have absolutely no place commenting on his accent.

As for the rest, well just shockingly wrong.

Nah I'm not African but, coincidentally, the person who I watched it with, spent the first part of her life in Southern Africa (not SA but close by) - her choice to buy it actually because of the connection - does that qualify me to question the acting?

Not googled it or whatever to see if all the cast are from SA, but I thought every time the lead charater swore, his accent went all strange. Wasn't just me who noticed this either.

Apart from that, the film is clumsy at best. The ending sequence embarassing and the characters are just flat. I'm no film fan really so maybe missing something?

Into the Wild above would get a good 9/10 from me though. Stunning film and soundtrack.

I'm as baffled as you are; I've just seen it, and I think I like it. But there were too many scenes I didn't really understand. And I'm still not sure how the beginning fits the rest of the film...

Misery - 8.5 obsessive fans out of 10

This is a masterpiece of a performance by Kathy Bates, which rightfully saw her win an Oscar. Rob Reiner directs and keeps it as simple as possible. But if I didn't know who directed it, I'd have said it had many of the hallmarks of the Coen Brothers. Rural setting and traces of black comedy like Fargo and Blood Simple. Small cast, concentrating on the main characters and setting. James Caan was good too.

There's one scene in it, which could make a lot of people very ill. You'll have to watch it to know which it is. And when you've seen it, you'll just know!

Jasmine, I actually forgot to even mention the opening, bizarre as it was. Nor did I understand the relevance of that to the main body of the film, and I suspect very few, if any, do at all. Apart from the Coens, that is.

Not seen Rounders. SPR is over-rated, Dogma and GWH aren't much. Fair point though.

Good Will Hunting isn't much what?

It is, to my mind, one of the greatest character driven films ever written. The acting in that film is mind blowing.

Can't believe you're not loving that.
