That’s a shame for Matip. Was looking like he was finally putting a sustained run of games together without picking up any knocks for the first time in his Liverpool career.

I’m sure Gomez will slot in without too much fuss. Matip was starting to nail that position down though.

Gomez doesn't fill me full of confidence at the moment. He switches off far too much when he's been called upon. Hopefully by starting a meaningful game he sees it as a chance to force himself back in and returns to the form he had pre-broken leg.

More stop starts in his career so far than a journey on the M25. What's the scoop on Matip?

Klopp:

"With Joel, it is not a big one but it is big enough that he is not available," said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who added he did not know if Matip will be fit to face Leicester City on Saturday.

"We don't want to have any risks and we don't have to take any risks and that's why he will not be involved."

RIP YNWA Joel.

Dave "shoehorn as many blues into the Merseyside team of the season" Prentice has just been on the local news then, talking about tonight's game. He couldn't even give us the slightest bit of credit and spent the whole segment going on about how tough a test Salzburg will be.

We're in for a tough night. Prentice knows his stuff...
