Virgil Van Dijk

Did he play in any of those?

He definitely played in at least one because there's a clip of him chasing Mane and making a block.

Edit: He played in the first league game and the first leg of the semi.

He also played alongsider Caulker when we beat them 6-1 the year before.

Is there anything more stupid than the tapping up rules in football? In the real world, you don't need permission from your current employer to talk to other employers.

Either way, Southampton are obviously seething that another one of their players wants to join us and about the subsequent leaks to the press. Nothing to see here, although we'll probably need van Dijk to put in a transfer request now.

Well except when it's your club's players being tapped up.

You dont need permission in the real world because employees dont attract transfer fees paid by employers to move between jobs.

I'm not a believer in spending big. But if only for spite we shouldn't pull out of this one. It's not always that we do this; so spend whatever it may take to get him since he wants to come to us over the fakes that are Chelsea and City. There is more to this than just money now. We must be proud that he chose us over those plastic clubs and the honour of our esteemed manager and that of this great club is on the line too.

They want a bidding war the cheeky bastards like 60m isn't enough. Didn't here too many tapping up claims with some of the shite they sold us.

Hopefully 60m was their estimate, hoping one of the clubs would pay it, but now he's chosen us it gives us more of an advantage in negotiations and we get him for nearer 40m.

Probably too optimistic for my own good with that one though.

They must want City to pay 60m upfront.

What's the latest on his ankle? And is six months out, a representative period of recovery with that sort of injury?

He hasnt been out for 6 months. He's been stepping up his recovery and training since mid april.  Obviously it seems longer because the season has ended. He's running normally.

Apparently there’s a pricetag on VVD, 50M or 60M or whatever.

Who set that price? Surely it must’ve been the club selling?

How can you blame anyone for being interested in your player if you put a price on his head? If Soton wanted to keep him why on earth announce a price for him?

I like how Manchester City, who signed human swiss cheese John Stones for £50M from perennially midtable Everton, feel Van Dijk is overpriced and lacking experience on the biggest stage.

Get turned down by any chance, chaps?
