Posted this in the PS4 thread, but in all honesty, it deserves a thread of its own.

PSVR has just been confirmed for release in October. Priced at £349 / €399 / $399.

It has also been confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront VR will be exclusive to PSVR.

If you wanted something a little bit bigger to sink your teeth into for PlayStation VR, there's Star Wars: Battlefront. It's a third-party exclusive and, well, Sony's Andrew House didn't say much more beyond that at today's GDC event aside from it being a DICE-developed project -- just like the base game. He promised we'll hear more about it in the coming months. So, E3? Here's to hoping it's more than just virtual reality viewer for the game's collectible diorama pieces.

Fair point, might have considered that if it wasn't 2am and I'd just come off a 3 hr drive. Assuming the $399 & EUR399 is exclusive of sales tax (and it makes sense, considering the variable rates) then that would make up for most of it, yeah.

  • 6 months later...

Mine arrived today.

Had a quick blast in the VR Playroom and on a couple of games on the demo disc included.

Really immersive, as you'd hope. One thing I will say is to start off with short sessions, so you get used to the feel/motion. If you suffer from motion sickness in any form, you're going to struggle with this if you don't play in short bursts.

Simple enough to set up. There is a small update for the headset that needs to be installed prior to use. There is also an update for the demo disc, just a touch over 6Gb in size, though the demo disc can be used without the update.

The device itself is pretty comfortable and doesn't feel weighty on your head. I've got a dome verging on Steve Bruce size, so the headband is at maximum capacity for my noggin. The headset comes with a pair of earphones and a choice of ear buds, which I personally don't like, as I've always been an on ear headphone kinda person.

The processing unit is pretty small, just slightly wider than a PS4 game box, but a little shorter in length and just over twice as thick.

I've bought Driveclub for this and will be trying it out tomorrow.

Just had a quick blast on DriveClub, it looks really, really good. Played through the introductory race and had a look around the menus, etc.

Here's a a video of my perspective from immediately after the race.

I done the race again, with the intention of recording and uploading, but I must have ballsed something up somewhere and the video was not available to me once I'd completed the race again.

I'm going to have an hour or so on the Infinite Warfare beta, before revisiting this and hopefully getting some in race footage to share.

Rez is getting completely lauded as a reason to buy a PSVR but it's too expensive for me at the moment. Looks interesting though and at least Rez can be played with or it.

How're you finding it with regards motion sickness? That's my main concern.

The first session I had took a little time to orientate myself again after using it, but I'm not feeling 100% at the moment anyway.

The second session was much easier, though I was only on for 30-40 minutes the second time.

If you suffer from motion sickness, then you'll have to be careful how long you play for, but I also think playing, stopping and playing again in a short space of time will also cause you some grief.

My early thoughts are, play for an hour and rest for at least an hour.

  • 2 weeks later...

The lenses in the headset fogged up so much during the race.

That would be great for the historic rally cars in Dirt, just like a real Escort all fogged up and the heater doing nothing to help.

The main thing that throws me off with the VR thing is I can't work out how it would work with me having glasses and keeping stuff in focus.

The housing for the lenses is designed to accomodate glasses, and it would just be a case of adjusting the distance of the lenses as it is for those who don't wear glasses.

There's a small button on the bottom right of the housing that allows you to slide the lenses back and forth as necessary.
