Actually quite surprised, felt he might have been waiting for Boris to have his turn before trying for leadership himself.

I think he fucking hates Alex for that very reason, that the self-admiring twat was always going to try and go one better than 'little brother'.

However, little brother got a First from Oxford, whereas Alex only got an upper second.

He then went on to have a proper career, albeit with a family leg-up, and then went into politics and has comfortably won 3 elections in Oprtington, with a very large majority.

I think he knew his star was aligned with his brother's, and any failing of Alex will not reflect well on him.  This will be partly the reason he's quit.  And let's be honest, it's a devastating blow, not only a family member, but a cabinet member.

Boris Johnson talking about Ed Miliband in 2013: "We don't do things that way, that's a very Left-wing thing. Only a socialist could regard familial ties as being so trivial as to shaft his brother."

Wouldn't surprise me if he has shafted his brother. And his sister. The one with the fringe. Yeah that weird looking helmet cunt.

I can't believe the only MP in that house to come out with a modicum of credit is Kenneth Clarke!

Oh, man! From what I've just seen, it appears the prorogation has truly backfired on him.

The situation as it stands, is that the vote from yesterday, outlawing a no-deal Brexit, was passed through the House of Lords last night after a deal was passed among themselves, bypassing the expected filibuster.

Now he's going to have another vote to trigger an election on Monday, which will not be passed, as there is still uncertainty over what chicanery and dirty tricks he may use to force no-deal through, meaning that because of the prorogation of Parliament, there cannot be an election before October 31st.

Masterful politicking, indeed!

Was all part of the plan.

Boris’ negotiations are going to get off to a flyer then....

Guy Verhofstadt, the European parliament’s lead Brexit spokesman, has strongly condemned the government’s decision to described the Benn bill designed to rule out a no-deal Brexit as a “surrender bill”. His tweet references a comment from Sajid Javid, the chancellor, but it is Boris Johnsonwho is using the phrase most enthusiastically.

Guy Verhofstadt (@guyverhofstadt)

Opposing a no deal is not "surrender". This is the language of Europe's dark past. It implies Britain's European allies & neighbours are enemies. I refuse to believe the majority of British people think this is the case.

BMA labels Rees-Mogg 'disgraceful' after he smears doctor who has warned about no-deal Brexit

Jacob Rees-Mogg, the leader of the Commons, has been strongly criticised for using parliamentary privilege to attack the reputation of a doctor who has warned about the dangers of a no-deal Brexit.

On Monday Rees-Mogg was involved in a row on his LBC phone-in with David Nicholl, a consultant neurologist drew up a risk register of epilepsy and neurology drugs for the government’s Operation Yellowhammer plans for no deal. Rees-Mogg said he did not accept Nicholl’s claim that people could die because of drug shortages in the event of a no-deal Brexit. Nicholl subsequently described the MP as an ignorant “muppet”.

Today Rees-Mogg resumed the dispute at business questions, comparing Nicholl to Andrew Wakefield, the doctor whose discredited research linking autism to the MMR vaccine has been blamed for vaccination levels falling, putting lives at risk.

Rees-Mogg told MPs:

In response, the SNP MP Carol Monaghansaid Rees-Mogg’s comment suggested the government wanted to cause “reputational damage to experts such as Dr David Nicholl who dare to challenge the government or indeed raise legitimate concerns about the impact of no-deal?”

Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow health secretary, said Rees-Mogg’s comments wereoffensive, irresponsible [and] shameful”.

Offensive, irresponsible, shameful garbage from Jacob Rees Mogg. He should have the decency and courtesy to withdraw & apologise. https://t.co/9JCXX9QIIy

Alistair Burt, a former health minister who had the Tory whip withdrawn on Tuesday after he voted against the government, described Rees-Mogg’s comment as “sheer irrationality”.

Alistair Burt (@AlistairBurtUK)

As a former Minister fully aware of the worldwide risks to health security from Wakefield’s anti-vax consequences, I am distressed such a comparison could come from a Government Minister in the U.K. The Brexit obsession is giving rise to sheer irrationality. https://t.co/aMRxHN3kqX

The Mail have apparently also been gunning for Nicholl, he's complained that they doorstepped his daughter. Despicable cunts.
