Mario Balotelli

I'm not sure what Brendan said has affected Balotelli's value any more than what the player has already done on the pitch. I'm not overly bothered if the manager is telling it like it is.

I'm bothered that he's saying something everyone knew, including himself, and absolving himself of any responsibility for the situation. He knew what Balotelli was. He signed off on him. He's at least partially responsible for the fact we have spent £16m on a forward who is of no use to us.

One of the biggest things that has hampered us over the last getting on for 20 years is throwing players in before they're ready and being in the doldrums and falling further behind while they learn on the job.

No, one of the biggest, if not THE biggest thing that has hampered us over last ~20yrs is embracing mediocrity and not demanding best - we're fucking Liverpool, not Arsenal. It lowers the bar, we've been doing it for too long and we all can see the results now. Decent is not good enough for Liverpool.

What's wrong with whats Brendans said? It's the truth. Balotelli has been nothing short of abject. 47 shots not a single goal says enough, this is compounded by not only his lack of effort but also his contempt for the game at times. People grasping onto the hope that when Sturridge returns Balotelli's going to start playing well and start scoring goals, wake the fuck up he's useless, the most unintelligent footballer I've ever seen, a coward and technically below average. Can't wait to see the back of him, the only positive we can take is because he's such a high profile "personality" we should recoup a large quantity of our outlay.

I bet he does stuff like blow balloons up and lets them go in the dressing room so they whiz around. Meanwhile other strikers are out there scoring goals. I'd go as far as saying he needs a full metal jacket-style beasting in the middle of the night.

Haha i can just imagine the scenario, Joe Allen awakes from the bunk above with a bar of soap wrapped inside his size 5 socks and beats fuck out of Mario before proclaiming "you better press next time or Brendan will hav ya". Mario's crawling around the room in the dark not knowing what fucking day it is.....scenes.

I agree with this. Brendan is partially responsible. Early in the summer Rodgers seemed strident in his view that Balotelli not coming/not the player for him. Fast forward to the end of the summer and we sign him. So what happened in between?

Sanchez fell through then Remy fell through. It seems to me like we should have had other options, but apparently we did not, so by the end of summer it appeared to be Balotelli or nothing. Rodgers obviously gave his blessing to Balotelli or else he wouldn't have been signed. He likely would not have imagined Balotelli would have offered nothing, and Sturridge's injury problems have been far worse than anticipated too.

With hindsight Rodgers should not have settled for the player. He should have ensured the money was ready to be used come January, do some better scouting and generate more options, and he should have got on with it with players he wanted.

Sometime after Rodgers categorically denied we were signing him I read an article claiming that Balotelli was one of the most recognisable footballers on the planet so I wonder how much Boston's marketing urges had to do with this deal. For such a cautious, value-for-money orientated organisation it seems a pretty wild gamble to take, at any price - to me it just highlights how dysfunctional the decision making processes at the club still are.

If your policy is to to assemble a young squad hoping they will develop and learn together ultimately fulfilling their potential you're taking a big risk dropping an infamously disruptive, well known waste of potential like Balotelli in the middle of it. The sort of rank stupidity the club has specialised in for years unfortunately.

He cost £16 million on a £4 million basic a year, 3 year contract so a £28 million deal. We'll be lucky to get half of that back I would have thought.

Balotelli is and always will be very lazy. He is a character and he knows it and no club, manager or set of fans will (unfortunately) change that. He genuinely does have tons of potential. Someone mentioned a few pages ago that even when he strikes a ball, he looks like he hit effortless so IF it does go in, he can look 'cool.'

Define character. He just comes across as a twenty-something lad who's a bit immature and has loads of money.

In revenge he'd grab his rifle and try to shoot Rodgers from 80 yards through a brick wall.

He would then turn the gun on himself but miss the target from point blank range, causing himself brain damage which left him with severely reduced mobility and awareness. No-one would notice for three weeks.

The shitstorm that would have ensued would have been biblical.

If we'd have bought any other player, we'd have paid them roughly the same ie £4m basic over 3 years. There's no getting that back in any transfer except if you buy low and the player's stock rises.

The important figure is the £16m and even that can be written down over the term of the 3 year contract. So, at the end of the year, his book 'worth' will be about £11m. That's the figure we'd need to get back in any transfer.

Id like to see balotelli paired with sturridge to see if they can form a productive partnership. They looked effective in the game against spurs but that could just be a one off.

Problem is, he hasnt pulled up any trees to warrant him being given that run.

Doesn't surprise me that you are one of the mongs bringing up the spurs game
