Ashley Cole

Cole (now) is the right player for two types teams:

1) A just promoted team looking for an ego boost and a 'name' for the fans to symbolise their ambition.

2) A big club in decline, trying to arrest the slide for one more year or so

Liverpool are neither of those, they're on the up and should be seeking 22-26 year olds.

Definitely a no from me.

For a start, he would consider earning £3m a year to be living on the breadline. Secondly, a club like ours should only consider signing somebody of that age and experience on a Bosman IF they are still hungry for success, and if they have leadership qualities or can be a presence in the dressing room. Spending money on them for those factors can be worth it in terms of bringing on the next generation of players at the club.

Ashley Cole would want too big a contract, seems to be well established and settled in (or near) London, and doesn't offer either leadership or dressing room presence. He's not yet washed-up and he's still generally consistent in his performances, but he doesn't offer what this club needs either now or in the immediate future.

He is better than Enrique and Cissokho without a doubt. Possibly has 1 maybe 2 yard left at that level.

I would much prefer us to be singing better talent of a better age without the massive amount of curtness but if it was the final day of the window and we hadn't signed a LB i'd take him.
