TORRES SIGNS NEW ANFIELD DEAL

Paul Eaton 14 August 2009

Fernando Torres has put pen to paper on a new and improved contract at Anfield.

The 25-year old striker agreed the terms of the deal back in May and has now completed the formalities of signing the new contract.

Torres was already tied to Anfield for the next four seasons after signing a six-year deal in 2007.

This new contract includes an option for a further year's extension to 2014.

The new deal is not exclusively good news for Liverpool. His wages are now higher, and he is signed up for the same period with the option of another year thrown in.

Not moaning about it as he is surely worth every penny, but still it takes a bit of spin to make it good news.

This is no news to be honest. He signed upto 2013 in 2007 and now he has signed a better deal up to 2013 with an option to extend it by a year.

I suppose it is intention to sign an improved deal proves something....like....something.

Ah, so every player who agreed to new deals a few months ago, have now signed them. Thats a big fuck off to all the doom mongers then (and I dont specifically mean anyone here) who were quick to point out that agreeing a new contract was not the same as signing one.

He agrees the deal just after the Manc's European Final.

He signs the deal just before the season starts.

A cynic would say these two events have been timed to give us a bit of a boost?

I would ask that cynic why he needed a boost after the European Cup final. :D

I'd agree with this, he took a paycut to join us and now he's having his wage restored to the level it was with Atletico, not exactly brilliant news.
