Gerrard confirms new contract talks

Steven Gerrard has hinted he will discuss a new deal at the end of the season as he believes Liverpool are now "heading in the right direction" after Tuesday's defeat of Chelsea.

The Reds skipper has been one of the driving forces behind the Reds' march to the Champions League final but has long been linked with a move to the defeated semi-finalists.

The 24-year-old had made no secret of his desire to win trophies but despite having had his head turned by Blues owner Roman Abramovich's billions last summer, he now looks set to fulfill his ambitions with the Merseyside club.

Negotiations over a new contract have been pencilled in for the summer and Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo: "I didn't want any distractions [before the semi-final] and it will be the same before the final.

"But I'll be sitting down with [chief executive] Rick Parry and the gaffer and discussing the future."

He added: "A result like this helps everyone at the club and we'll have a lot of positive things to talk about.

"I've said all along all I wanted to see was the club going in the right direction and this shows we are."
