If we are short for the 64, I am kicking myself for not putting Fela Kuti in.

 

He should 100% be in this competition, the man was a force of nature.

There's 11 there as I didn't want to leave out Marvin Gaye. Some of those above I like more than others but I tried to put up a pretty dispassionate list of those people deserving of the tile "greatest male solo artist". I mean I love Peter Gabriel and personally would rather listen to his stuff than a few on the list but he's not more deserving of the title - his cultural and musical impact is not even comparable to someone like Jacko for example, despite my own personal preference.
