Kolo Toure

Taking a break from talking about MK4, lets talk about Toure.

Experience, Astute signing, Leader....

City duo applaud Toure acquisition - Liverpool FC

Kolo Toure's level of experience and leadership makes his free transfer to Liverpool an 'astute' signing according to two of his former colleagues at Barclays Premier League rivals Manchester City.

The Ivorian defender plied his trade with City for four seasons, winning a championship medal and the FA Cup as well as sharing a dressing room with Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott.

"Kolo will be a great signing. I think it's an astute signing by Brendan Rodgers because he has got so much experience," Barry told LFC TV.

"He will always give 100 per cent, he will never give up. Kolo will win over the fans straight away.

"Losing Jamie Carragher's experience from the dressing room will be a huge loss for Liverpool and the fans.

"But Kolo, with his experience and his work-rate, the way he goes about his training, will do a good job of replacing him."

That's an opinion shared by City teammate Lescott, who had the opportunity to watch Toure at close quarters during their time together in Manchester.

The England international explained: "He's energetic, he's full of life and he's always smiling every day in training.

"I know he's a good player - he's quick, he reads the game well and he's a leader. You can't replace Jamie Carragher but that will be as close as you're going to get."

Kolo's experience is good for the younger defenders we're trying to bed in.He's seen every level of opposition in the league. I'm hoping he does well and develops a good understanding with Agger. I'm not sure he will start every match though, as he struggled to get in ahead of other younger defenders at City. I'd expect him to feature in more, if not all cup games. Still see Skrtel (if he stays) as first choice.

The blueshite fans have been saying he's a druggie. For god sake he got banned for taking his wifes allergy pills. If he's a druggie so is Rio Ferdinand who refused to piss because he was on jamaican wood-bines.

It's a disgrace. Merson never got banned even though he was snorting cocaine for 2 years. He also did the impossible, he drank Tony Adams and George Best under the table. He also broke Oliver Reids record for the fastest time to neck a litre of vodka.

Would be the same blueshite bell ends who used to swear blind that Robbie Fowler was a coke head ?

Merson, for all his talent, was simply cuntstruck.

I'd be happy with him as a first choice if he stays fit. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him play well enough to stay in the team.

Yeah, the thing that impresses me in that video from him last season that I posted was how he still had a turn of pace.

But more importantly was how he dealt with Benteke, Lukaku and the other physical strikers, which Skrtel, Agger and Carragher all struggled with.

Agger needs someone dominant in the air alongside him and someone who won't get bullied. Toure could be that man, that's why I wouldn't be surprised if he was the first choice next season alongside Agger.

He'll probably start the opening game vs Stoke, who have physical players and it wouldn't surprise me if he is hard to drop.

Excellent point.

I can't see a reason why Kolo Toure can't cement a place as a first team regular if he starts and shines against Stoke. He is a giant of a man. He's definitely no shrinking violet, by any means. We're definitely not going to be as timid as we were last season that's for sure. We got bullied way too easily. That's set to change. Apparently Iago Aspas loves a scrap, the bigger the defender...the happier he is.

Toure could prove to be an excellent acquisition. I hope he scores a winner against the blueshite and does a Robbie Fowler type celebration - Houllier's "eating the grass" !

Got to love Ged, havent you? Where others may have stuttered and stumbled he was bang, straight in there with 'eatin' the grass'!

Im just surprised he didnt say it was a tradition in France and Robbie had cottoned on to it.

The reason why Robbie Fowler is loved by us Liverpool fans is the fact that he's a scallywag. He's a cheeky little fucker. He was cheeky with the goals he scored, and he was just as cheeky with some of his celebrations.

Not just with us, he taunted Manchester United fans on a regular basis. In 2004, he taunted them with the ''Mourinho celebration'' having scored against them for City.

Nobody dare piss him off. Graeme Le Saux knows better not too, after Robbie made a gesture Le Saux is a shirt-lifter.

I love cheeky players. Razor Ruddock pulling down Cantonas collar was class too.

Robbie Fowler is boss, but the Le Saux thing was uncalled for. Why was Le Saux supposed to have been gay? Because he read the Guardian?

Ruddock was, is and probably always be a tool. He took the piss out of the club and supporters in as much that he couldn't be arsed keeping himself in shape. And don't get me started on that pound coin bollocks.

The fowler thing was funny. It was called for because le saux is and was a cunt and anything that pissed him off was good by me.

I disagree. The line snorting and 5 finger salute celebrations were funny. The Le Saux business, in my opinion, wasn't. Why is Le Saux a cunt? I know very little about the lad, other than he is reasonably well spoken and read/reads The Guardian. He certainly hasn't come across as being obnoxious when I've seen him on the telly.

I'm still hoping we get Papadopoulos or somebody, but Toure won't just sit on the bench and look pretty, he has a lot to offer. It seemed strange at the time, because it came out of the blue. The more I thought about it, the smarter it became. It didn't cost us a transfer fee, he has a winning mentality and experience of winning in the league, he's a fucking brute and can play, and he is good in the air. He also has a reputation of working with younger players and passing on wisdom.

If we can get him a touch leaner, and get him on a specialised training regimen like Gerrard, we might have struct a bargain there. Even if he only plays against teams like Stoke, I can't see how it's a bad thing.

Does anyone else think that he might play a little DM for us? Biteco aside, we haven't been linked to anyone that might play that role, leaving most to wonder if someone like Allen or Gerrard (or even this new Brazilian Jorginho we're linked with) if Lucas goes down next season, though none of them are really suited to the role.

But it occurs to me that one of the best things about the Toure signing is that he could probably fill in there if we needed him too. It would make sense to me, too, if we're looking at him as cover for both centre back and defensive midfield; after all, he did start his career at Arsenal as a midfielder. It's not like the constant "Agger should play DM" calls from mongs over the past couple of seasons when he's never played there.

Toure could probably slot in there for a few games if Lucas had a short-term problem and I doubt we'd miss much, plus it gives time for Biteco/Coady or whoever else we might be grooming from the youth setup to grow into the role this season without dropping them in at the deep end in case of an injury.

If we do get someone like Papa for centre back, then I think it would be a great option for the odd game or to cover Lucas, otherwise I think we'll be needing Toure at the back to deal with the physical strikers - which most sides have.

Rather that than having Allen doing the job.

But I fear Rodgers thinks Allen can do the role, something I disagree with strongly.

Every time I've heard him on the radio he's come across as a cunt. He was a tit as a player, decisive in all the dressing rooms he was in and I couldn't give 2 fucks what paper he reads, if fowler can find a way to piss him off with a simple gesture like that, I don't see why it's not funny, just illustrates le saux's cuntishness.

Only a complete idiot would think Joe Allen is a defensive midfielder. Brendan had him at Swansea and he never played as a defensive midfielder. That was Leon Britton.

Joe Allen will do well when Brendan adopts a flat midfield three in a 4-3-2-1 formation. Occasionally he may not start games, but he could be brought on as a sub to put pressure on the opposing midfield. Quite similar to what he did against Spurs at home. He made an enormous difference when he came on as a sub. He forced Spurs into mistakes.

You really talk loads of shit and have not got a single clue do you?

At least half of his appearances have been as a DM and its obvious to any fan worth his salt that Rodgers favours him there.

What the fuck you on about?

You're the one that hasn't a clue.

Joe Allen played in a withdrawn midfield role alongside Steven Gerrard when Lucas was injured. It was not defensive. Xabi Alonso played a similar role alongside Javier Mascherano who was a defensive midfielder.

Joe Allen is not nor ever was a defensive midfielder.

Go watch the games and see where he was sitting in front of the back four, stopping the opposition and supplying the forward attacking midfield.

I can post stats if you want but it will be lost on you.

Again you have not got a single clue about having a flexible midfielder that can work as a DM.

Clueless.
