End of season friendly with Ajax ..... in Cape Town

Recommended Posts

So less than 24 hours after the QPR game we fly out to South Africa. Then a pre season tour to South East Asia then Australia. I know it makes good 'commercial sense' but really don't think it's the best of prep to start the new season well especially without our best player for the first 6 games.

Cancelled.

South Africa visit cancelled - Liverpool FC

South Africa visit cancelled

Liverpool Football Club recently accepted an invitation from the City of Cape Town to play a fixture against Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday, May 21.

This post-season fixture represented an opportunity for the club to visit supporters in South Africa for the first time in 19 years. Regrettably, the South Africa Premier Soccer League has decided that this match cannot now be played on this date and have subsequently advised Ajax Cape Town that this fixture should be cancelled.

We are hugely disappointed that we are unable to visit and the team cannot play in front of our terrific supporters.

Moreover, we are saddened that we cannot at this time undertake the community and grassroots activities we had planned as part of our visit to South Africa.

Thank fuck its off, who goes on to play a friendly after the season is finished, ridiculous stuff.

Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur will play an exhibition match against the Jamaican national team in The Bahamas on May 23 at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium on Nassau Paradise Island.

Man City and Chelsea?

City will cross the Atlantic at the end of May to take on Chelsea at the famous Busch Stadium in St Louis.

It will be the first-ever international football match to take place at the iconic 46,861 capacity stadium in Missouri and marks a rare opportunity for the Blues to play in front of the growing, passionate fan base in the States.

Didn't Barcelona have a post season mini-tour somewhere a few seasons back, South Africa maybe, or China?

I remember watching Portland play Ajax early May a few seasons ago. Anyway although I understand the need for harlem globetrotting I'm glad we're not going.
