This was the worst pint of the day, horrible shit compared with some of the other great beers we had during the day.

Started at the Windmill for breakfast and IPA, then the Punch Bowl, Swan, Kings Arms, Three Tuns, Red Lion and two or three I can't remember. Some brilliant pubs.

Oh, I've been in one or two of them!

There seem to be quite a few of them!

Best thing about drinking proper ale all day is the lack of hangover. I'm just a bit groggy and tired after putting away a LOT of beer yesterday. Must have been a good 14 pints or so albeit over about 10 hours. Imagine the hangover after that much lager.

I love real ale, but if Im in a pub where there isnt any(to watch certain sporting events) it doesnt bother me and will just drink lager. I just see it like coffee and tea, dont have to like one or the other.

my arl fella is a keen real ale drinker and his mates are too so ive been in their company and some are the archetypal "beer ticker" type, dont like the arsing about at the bar some do too, just pick one and sit down.

been on a few brewery tours with them and had a great time.

favourites are Black sheep, cains fa, Timothy taylors landlord.

Bottles are not as good.

The blood tub in Burscough was my favourite pub, had Black sheep but its gone a bit ponsy restaurant now.

in town, got a few favourites but I really like the Ship and Mitre or the Lion tavern

A few beauties worth trying...

Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby mild. Brewed in Coseley, Birmingham. The best real ale I've ever had. You can usually get it at ale festivals though.

Titanic Plum Porter, you can get this in The Dispensary.

Adnams Broadside. Weighing in at a whopping 6.3% in the bottle or 4.7% on draft.

I also used to love Cains Raisan until they went under. Beautiful stuff.

You won't hear many Aussies say this, but I like British beer. Whoever said the further  north you go the better it gets is spot on and I agree. I particularly like Scottish ales. For a while I was buying Orkney Dark Ale by mail order from the Orkneys which is a fucking expensive way to do it but I loved the stuff. If you're a whisky drinker I recommend Highland Park Whisky too. It's the only single malt I can honestly say I enjoy.
