Woke up at 7AM, went downstairs to let the dog )Labrador retriever) do his morning business. We also have a cat who comes and goes as he pleases, so he went out as well. He's got a little bell he wears around his collar, so I hear him jingle-jingle. As he goes round the shed in the back, the jingling stops. Meanwhile, the Lab is going for his morning shite. Next thing, there is scruffing, thumping noises coming from behind the shed, and the cat's bell sounds like Santa Claus ringing his sleigh bells. wtf is going on? I've got no shoes on, and then the cat comes from out behind the shed with a morning dove in his mouth. The dogs sees this, loses his mind and starts jumpin…

This is one of the best email annihilations I've ever read. Somebody emailed David Thorne (no idea?) the title of this thread. From there, he rips him to shreds. Well worth the five minutes it'll take to read.

I read the following article and wondered at what point you can be accused of "abducting" your own kids. Do I what this man done in the least bit defendable and acceptable? No. Would the same terminology and reaction be the same if a British woman breached childcare arrangements and fleed with their kid to Spain? Well I know it wouldn't, because it happened to a colleague and the police considered it a domestic issue. BBC News - Abducted Atiya Anjum-Wilkinson is reunited with mother To be fair I am probably comparing to pretty different cases but shit like this winds me up.

BBC News - 'Al-Qaeda ringleader' wins appeal against deportation "The alleged leader of an al-Qaeda plot to bomb targets in north-west England has won his appeal against deportation. A special immigration court said Abid Naseer was an al-Qaeda operative - but could not be deported because he faced torture or death back home in Pakistan. Mr Naseer, 23, was one of 10 Pakistani students arrested last April as part of a massive counter-terrorism operation in Liverpool and Manchester. Another student, Ahmad Faraz Khan, also 23, won his appeal on similar grounds. The security services believed the men were planning to attack within days of their arrest, but …

For the first time in my life, I'm going to have to partake in this complete bullshit of a day. Been with this girl for 10 months now and have done well with birthday and Christmas gifts. Don't have a clue what to get for Valentines Day next week though. Is some jewellery too much?

The X-Factor thread made me think about these celebrity magazines (Now!, Hello, [i know there's others but I can't think of their titles offhand] ). Why the hell does anyone buy these things? Why does someone hand over their own money to see staged pictures of someone out shopping wearing clothes and make-up that they're being paid to wear or of someone else on the beach in Dubai? Or hand over their money to read more bollocks and irrelevant nonesense about Jordan and Peter Andre? Or Kerry 'oxygen-thieving' Katona? I really think that to want to read these magazines you must have something fundamental missing from your life. A sense of worth, maybe? Or mayb…

Been reading a lot of press for this film due to its release in the next few months approaching. Based on Ian Curtis from Joy Division’s life and shot entirely in black and white, one of the films I have been most looking forward to seeing this year as he’s musical figure I’ve always found interesting when reading up on his life from time to time. So far it’s had very, very good reviews from Cannes and looks to be a very interesting film, one I cant wait to see as it was based on a book his wife wrote. Is anyone else looking forward to it, any Joy Division fans on here?.

Link to BBC news item Am I the only one who thinks this wrong? If a woman goes out dressed in a short skirt, a skimpy top, has lots of make up on and is prepared to get absolutely hammered on bacardi and coke or whatever, then isn't that consent enough? Its normally pretty obvious the sort of women who are 'up for it' when on a night out. Why is it the blokes fault if a woman can't behave responsibly enough? I'm not condoning rape at all, but if a woman gets herself blind drunk then shouldn't she be the one responsible for what might happen?

Press Association. There was a major security alert at the Palace of Westminster after a man apparently carrying a knife charged through the gates into the front yard of the parliamentary compound. Amid shouts and screams, sounds similar to gunfire rang out. Two people were seen to be lying within Old Palace Yard, immediately outside Westminster Hall. The sitting in the House of Commons was suspended while police officers sealed off the area around the incident. Immediately before the incident, at around 2.45pm, a crowd of passers-by was seen running from the direction of Westminster Bridge and around the corner into Parliament Square.

BBC News - 'Five dead' at Texas skating rink party shooting At least five people have been killed and three injured in a shooting at a roller-skating rink birthday party in the US state of Texas, police say. The shooting happened after an argument broke out at the party in the city of Grand Prairie, close to Dallas. The gunman is among the dead, having shot himself after opening fire on fellow guests, police say. Details about the incident are sketchy but police say the row was a "domestic disturbance between husband and wife". "It appears to be a domestic situation, at this point," Reuters news agency quoted police spokesman Steve Dye as saying. "That…

Or 'Best Of..', 'Singles', etc. Have you ever bought one (or in most of my cases been bought one) and actually agreed with the selections? I've got about 20-30 greatest hits compilations, and not one of them do I think 'I'd have all of them one'. They're either missing a few songs, or I don't really like one or two songs on there. My family seem to get me them for Christmas and the like, and I tell them not to, as if I'm a big fan of a certain act, chances are I'll already own all of the albums, so it's a waste of money on their part. One thing they're good for, is picking them up really cheap in the sales. I picked up the double disc New Order 'Singles' colle…

'Happy-slapping' pair jailed for street attack on grandad Two teenage members of a "happy-slapping" gang who killed a pensioner in front of his three-year-old granddaughter were jailed yesterday - but will walk free in less than 18 months. The heartbroken son of victim Ekram Haque, 67, branded the justice system a "disgrace" after his dad's killers were sentenced. Leon Elcock, 16, and Hamza Lyzai, 15, slapped Mr Haque on his face and the back of his head outside a mosque in Tooting, South London, last August. He fell and smacked his head on the pavement. As the pair fled laughing, toddler Mariam tried to help her grandad. He died of brain injuries seve…

Details of the plot of the new Indiana Jones movie have been revealed. The fourth instalment in the franchise will see Harrison Ford's adventurous archaeologist tackling a group of Soviet spies led by Irina Spalka (Cate Blanchett). The film opens with Indiana and sidekick Mac (Ray Winstone) in a remote airfield in 1957, the height of the Cold War. Indy, who has been fired from his university teaching job, meets delinquent Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf), who wants him to help with a mission. In return, Mutt will lead him to the powerful Crystal Skull of Akator, one of archaeology's most spectacular discoveries. Awesome!
