Someone mentioned Tilda Swinton the other day, she'd be good.

I heard that suggested a while back.  My first thought was that she could do the intensity and other-worldliness, but I wasn't sure she had the comic touch.  Since then, I've watched Trainwreck and Hail Caesar, so I now reckon she'd deffo have what it takes.

Why not?

Because I don't believe that the change in gender is a chance to serve the character. The new Wolverine is currently female, no issue with that, the person who holds the mantle of Thor is a woman, fine by me.

I'd be happier with the BBC making more new shows with strong female characters rather than shoehorning in the lack of female roles into existing characters.

What people seem to ignore with Tilda Swinton is that she stars in movies, big movies and small personal movies, regularly. Why would she give that up to work on a TV show for 6 months of the year?

But would the lure of being the first female Dr Who match that? I hope so as I think she's ace.

Or Olivia Coleman.

I stopped watching this years ago. I quite liked Ecclestone and Tennant but couldn't take to Matt Smith (he looked like a children's television presenter) and haven't bothered with it since.

Much as I quite like Tennant he just never had the gravitas I want in a Doctor. I gave up after that
