Like a new signing.

We're due a bit of luck, as is he.

Hopefully he'll be ready to play some role on Saturday. We'd have much better balance with him in the side and Mac Allister and Gakpo in their proper positions.

Would the injury be a factor though? There's a definite 6 in there from the clips I've seen.

Still odd the way it went very quiet on him after a lot of initial heat.

The injury might be a factor, yeah.

The thing about deeper midfield positions is theyre convoluted. You look at Kones profile and the thing he seems best at is dribbling and carrying the ball. And then he seems like a decent ball winner. So based on that, you would think alright, he might be best as a more attacking profile that can press, win duels high up the pitch and be a threat carrying the ball into the attacking third. But then you also see that he has like no attacking threat. So what do you do with that?

You probably say he can become a 6 because maybe the ability to dribble = press resistance and ability to burst through from deep and then he is a good ball winner, and you cant really afford to have an 8 that cant attack anyway. But all that is just a supposition. Thats why its not really clear.

I dont find the fact the Caicedo or even Lavia chose Chelsea over us as embarrassing. Caicedo supported them as a kid and they have been trying to sign him for over 6 months. They also bid £50 million for Lavia in January and Joe Shields signed him for City, Southampton and is now working at Chelsea. He obviously has a good relationship with the player.

What i do find embarrassing is the amount of money Chelsea are spending compared to us. We are a huge club and we are in need of a massive rebuild and have signed two fucking players so far. Mean while they have just activated the release clause for Oilse from Palace. Its a total joke.

If they have found a way to circumvent the rules, why aren't we doing the fucking same. We need players, spend the fucking money and get players in while we have Klopp. Worry about FFP later because right now, other clubs don't seem to give a shit about it and are getting slaps on the wrist.

You can't sit on the sidelines watching like a kid who missed the ice-cream van. Go and buy other talented players and put pressure on peoples places. We need a right back, centre back, 2 midfielders and another forward. You want to behave like a big club and show we can break the British transfer record? Cool, it didn't work out. Now show your a big club again and at least hover up all the other talent you can find otherwise you're going to be left so far behind you wont know what's hit you until its too late, idiots.

I think most of us were pretty high on the Kone and Thuram thing to begin with. Wouldn't be a bad result to just revisit that.

I'm sure on one of the podcasts Monty said that  based on the stats Thuram was really weak in the areas that you need for a good defensive midfielder.

I would try and get Kone now though and I'd take a centre back over another midfielder.  No idea who though.

Chelsea initially bid for Lavia right at the end of the last summer window. I remember it because It was mental that they were going after a Southampton player only a few months after he had joined and played about 3 games for them at the time!

If they have found a way to circumvent the rules, why aren't we doing the fucking same?

Presumably because they don't really know if they have found a way to do it and the same reason that no other club has tried this method.

Think our transfer guy is on a day out at the beach, been mad busy sorting the packed lunch out. May have time to look tomorrow.

An interesting question is; is Caicedo a clue as to what kind of profile we are looking for, or did we simply think he is one of the best midfielders in the world, and therefore worth a massive fee,

Because Caicedo isnt someone you just tell to sit there in front of the defense. He is basically a rolls royce who does everything. If its in any way telling as to what we are looking for, then it wont be someone that was similar to Fabinho.

It is probably a bit of both. It would have been like Arsenal signing Rice, where he plays as a 6 but he is more forward thinking and has a more complete skillset than a lot of 6s do.

I think Kone would be great, especially as low cost but also has a decent ceiling. He could absolutely do a Gini job for us.

Him and another more traditional DM would be what I would do now. Especially because Kone feels like he could also do a double pivot or the 8 if needs be.

Him and Mac in a double pivot with Szoboszlai/Gakpo/Elliott ahead of them.

Would actually create the ideal niche for Elliott to develop into as well.

But yeah, would also want that traditional option. Sangare looks reasonable for the Dutch league, but maybe gets dispossessed maybe a bit too much (testing being a whoscored nerd)?

I think it was opportunism, but I do think we'll get more from Mac Allister if he is in the middle of things rather than playing at being a 10.

But then Klopp was talking about the roles of an 8 vs a 6 the other day and seemed to be hinting at specialisation, rather than moving away from that.

Considering where we are with the defensive setup, getting a functional midfield that can adapt would probably be better in the long-run. Midfielders that can tackle, pass, support the defence and join the attack, UTOPIA.

Which team could a journalist who writes this kind of stuff possibly support?

"Mauricio Pochettino almost had his man and Klopp was left taking cheap shots at Chelsea for always backing their managers in the transfer market. Jealously is an ugly trait."

"#FSGOUT is trending again, as it does when Liverpool simply draw a game in truth..."

Didn't someone on here say that Brighton's recruitment team went to Chelsea with Potter?

It's not that simple though.

Clubs use databases for scouting players, proper in-depth stuff and it's mostly provided by a single company that specialises in it and sells that database to clubs that can afford to pay for it.

A little while back, some of the smaller clubs questioned the wisdom of competing with richer clubs using the same information.  They decided to set-up their own databases using slightly different metrics to bring some different players to their attention, as Brentford said, there were looking for marginal gains.

I know Brentford have their own database, and so do Brighton.

Whether or not Brighton's owner is the proprietor of the database or the head of development is an interesting question but I'd imagine it's the former.

If Chelsea have retained the Potter recruitment team and are trying to recreate the database I don't know.  If they're starting from scratch it'd take a long time.
