Summer 2022 Transfer Thread

It is fair enough being sustainable, lowering debt, being run properly, being profitable - not over paying for players etc etc etc...

But sometimes circumstances happen and emergencies occur and you have to get the credit card out and pay it off later....

We have been in a great position to dominate alongside the oil cheats but seem quite happy to let the opportunity pass us by and the team (well certainly the midfield) stagnate.

No one (except Twitter Africans) expects us to spend £200m net every year - most sensible, reasonable people would just like us to spend like a top 3 club and one of the highest revenue generating teams in the world look to improve constantly....

We now have the second oldest team in the league and the bench options are mostly injury prone or unproven kids.

We have very few players in that peak/prime 24-27 age group....Diaz, Trent, Jota, Tsimikas and if you count Keita that is about it.....Not one of those (i am not counting Keita with his 42 league games worth of minutes in 4 seasons) is a midfielder....

Its all about Klopp at the moment, he is the only person who is keeping it all together. But you can clearly sense his frustration these days with some of the answers to reporters and snapping at some of the valid questions. FSG will not have a fucking clue who to appoint if Klopp decides to leave. They are banking on Klopp being the same person with the same loyalty but every person has a breaking point.

And yes you are absolutely right. If we need to spend £150m to get back to CL under Klopp or anyone, it just won't happen. Newcastle will be a top 4 certainty soon along with City so that just leaves 2 positions open.

Yes, agree and I think that adds to the anxiety because you feel if we don't take this chance we may well not get another one don't you?

This self sustaining model doesn't work for us now so how the hell will it work if we don't have the sponsors or the cache for players.

Thats without even thinking about Klopp.

I just want us to realistically seem to be trying our best. Coming second to City when you can realistically say you have maximised your resources is one thing. Not like £150m net  spends every window but something that shows a bit more ambition. Finishing behind them, just, when you are spending the kind of net spends we are is massively frustrating. Especially when fans say it's only because of City's spending power and them being cheats.

The constant dumbing down of expectations while placing ourselves as the brightest in the room. Telling the fanbase that the likes of West Hams spending is unsustainable and yet continues each summer.

I thought, based on the rhetoric coming out of the club that we may well come out of the pandemic well positioned to pick off players from those who had over stretched. Like Barella at Inter or some of those at Barca or Lyon. But we don't.

We just talk like a middle to bottom of the table club when we talk about transfer budgets. "We can't this, of course we can't that". Maybe it's a ploy to not look rich but it's deeply frustrating waiting for the big summer that never appears.

Continually being told you cannot compete financially with the other big clubs kind of tells you that we are not the massive club we all believe we are but some plucky middle table underdog.

Got tickets for a Leverkusen game in a few weeks, so look forward to me coming on here two weeks after the deadline to say we should have signed Wirtz.

edit: actually, is there anything more recent about that Neuhaus guy? From BMG.

Hows Wirtz doing after the injury, if nothing else Diaby will be fun to watch.

Dunno, haven't gone yet.

Yeah, they have a few I'm interested in seeing (Azmoun and Schick as well), am right behind the standing so should be a good atmosphere too, but don't really keep up with Bundesliga that closely, just off on a city break so getting a game and a couple of random german gigs in.

Did we really need Barnes and Beardsley given we’d already signed Aldridge mid-season as Rush’s successor? Saving the money and giving Paul Walsh a bit more playing time would have been the smart move.

They were too quick to get rid of Jim Beglin. He could have offered what Naby does now.

I've not seen him play much but compared to the likes Ketia and Oxlade-Chamberlain he certainly wouldn't be our Wirzt midfield signing.

I honestly don't think we will get top 4 this yr ,spurs are on the up arsenal are looking decent Chelsea they will be somewhere near,by the time we have our full strength team back we could be along way behind, this teams cycle of going for titles is over criminally under invested the last few years we have wasted a golden opportunity to strengthen when on top fucking insane . Bought for 350 million worth 2.5 billion and can't sanction a few more million spend pathetic

I only wish clickbait was around years ago.

"Molby being released from the clink could save Liverpool millions."

"Ruddock actually running on the treadmill whilst the coaching staff aren't there proves that Liverpool do not need defensive reinforcements."

Surprised Barca haven't tried to sign Paqueta as a cheaper option to Silva.

They'd only have to sell another 10% of the business instead of 30%

You do realise you sound as fucking pathetic as Scott when you constantly try to make out people are being unreasonable in wanting the club to spend what it earns on players don’t you?

No one wants City/Chelsea/PSG style spending. But we had a higher net spend under Moores than we do these fucking owners and they’ve seen their investment rise from £350m to potentially £3bn.

Klopp has saved their arses from fucking riots.

What is it about either of them in the games you've seen them play that has stopped the likes of Utd, us, Juventus, Barcelona. Real Madrid, PSG and others from signing them while mid tier teams like Wolves and West Ham do, given they are so right do you reckon?

Hahahaha, yes because UTD and Barca are a barometer for success. If they had any brains they would have bought Nunes instead of Casemiro. They don't want them because they want Casemiro and De Jong, players who aren't projects. We should be buying them instead too but we're broke as fuck.

Barcelona have Gavi and Pedri. Real have Tchou Camavinga Valverde and others. PSG have Vitinha, Verrati, Sarabia and many more. Juve have way too many midfielders.

Wirtz is never happening, we missed our chance. For the bunch of smart guys we purport to be we never actually buy any major talents before they become unattainable.

We should have signed Wirtz when Chelsea signed Havertz.
