Fucking hell.

Orwell's theory of Perpetual War right here.

A strong Iran (without nukes) is far preferable to Saudi Middle East hegemony.

The President of the United States is no a cum-filled sock puppet that has been stuck down the back of a gas cooker for a few months.

The news that they may renege on the Iranian nuclear deal is bad news for everyone, it basically states that the only way you can have a cast iron guarantee of not being invaded by the United States is to have (and therefore proliferate) Nuclear weapons.

Spot on. Don't co-operate, throw international inspectors out of the country, develop devices & missiles. And create a convenient bogeyman for spunkychops.

Guest Pistonbroke

Or he starts fucking about with nuclear buttons.

Thankfully he needs others to join him in being tired of life, or wanting to live for 20 years in a shitty bunker with the orange tanned buffoon. Trump left to his own devices would be a frightening thought, but even though he is backed by a bunch of cunts I believe they enjoy the champagne socialist life they have.

I could be wrong but I get the impression that the Robert Mueller investigation is at least a couple of steps ahead of what is being reported. The team is packed with experts in financial crime, and they will be tracking all sorts of illicit payments to build up a picture of what has been happening. The Steele dossier gains credibility with each passing day. If it could be disproven it would be, but it seems that some of the core findings in the dossier are true. Some of the more salacious stuff has not been proven.

My thinking would go something like this:

Trump likes a dollar. He’s in over his head. Nobody will lend him money so he goes cap in hand to the Russians. The oligarch set has cash to burn, so help is on hand for Trump. But it’s not without strings attached. Nothing happens in Russia with Putin’s knowledge and/or approval. As Trump was growing in prominence the stakes started to get a whole lot higher. Could this buffoon actually have a shot at the Presidnency?

So they helped him. Clandestine meetings here and there. Plus a massive social media campaign to undermine Hillary and help Trump, particularly in key swing States. Lo and behold he went and won the White House.

The expected payment would likely have been loosened sanctions and a thawing of relations between America and a Russia. On top of that there would be a lot of money to be made. One example of this is the $500 Billion in oil drilling rights Exxon Mobil holds in Russia, but with sanctions it can’t be exploited. The answer was to get Rex Tillerson, former CEO, in place in Trumps government so the situation could be exploited as soon as sanctions relax.

Problem.

Sanctions remain. And Tillerson is in danger of looking like a good man who actually wants to serve his country. He recently tried to open talks with North Korea and was shut down by Trump, and reportedly he called the President a moron. Plenty of people have been sacked for less than that. Why is Tillerson still in a job? My guess is because he’s in on the oil extraction plan and there is loads of money to be made, so he safe.

Meanwhile, Putin can’t be happy. Sanctions weren’t lifted and the initial favorable messages that Trump expressed in his direction have evaporated. Trump has been out of step with much of his base as he cosied up to the Russians, so he has retreated back from that somewhat. You get the impression that Putin is well on top in that relationship, and he likely spelled out to Trump what he wanted in their face to face private meeting at the UN/G20 gatherings. But Trump can’t deliver it, as there’s no stomach to lift sanctions.

So, what do you do?

If you are Trump you try to kick off in as many different directions as possible to keep your hold on power. Tax cuts energizes the well heeled portion of his base. The NFL spat energizes the blind patriots in his base. Then the foreign stuff energizes his base, and more besides, hence the nonsense with North Korea and now Iran.

It’s a complete joke, apart from the fact that it isn’t so serious. He is in trouble, and he knows it, probably over loans and collusion with the Russians, and perhaps even on some other sordid personal stuff with prostitutes in Moscow. So he is risking war if he keeps going in the way he has been - to my mind as a massive diversion away from the investigation that is tightening around him.

I only hope he upsets Putin in some serious way, as I’m pretty sure Moscow could take him down with a simple disclosure of some of the things they know. Presumably that would harm Russian intelligence options and scope for future similar work, so in the meantime they aren’t blowing the lid off the whole thing.

It’s fascinating and at the same time it reminds me of some of the sort of stuff we saw from Emperors in Ancient Rome. The fact that we are living through it is amazing. My best guess on the final outcome is one term for Trump, Pence to take over with a pardon for Trump, and, unfortunately a serious military conflict somewhere. The American people need to wake up and the Democrats need to get their own house in order to capture the hearts of (most) Americans who want something better than this.
