Charlie Adam wants to join Liverpool by the end of the week - but faces a bitter fight with Blackpool over his exit.

Skipper Adam had talks with boss Ian Holloway before the Sunderland game on Saturday and left him in no doubt that he is desperate to go to the Kop.

The Scottish midfielder was ready to demand a move BEFORE the match but was talked out of his stance after Holloway pleaded with him to give his best - and then be sold.

Adam turned in another outstanding display, scoring a consolation penalty and receiving rave reviews despite the behind-the-scenes drama.

However Holloway's claim that Kop boss Kenny Dalglish will have to vastly increase his offer for Adam has put the player and his club on a war footing again.

The deal is now down to money and Adam is now poised to tell the Seasiders again that he wants out, worried that the Anfield move may pass him by if he does not go in this window.

Tomorrow's home match with Manchester United could be his final game for the Tangerines - if he plays.

Liverpool are prepared to go to £5 million for Adam, but could switch their sights to another target. The former Rangers prospect is keen to avoid that nightmare outcome.

Liverpool's director of football Damien Commolli last night vowed to step up the club's bid to land Luis Suarez.

The Reds are closing in on a £19million deal to land the 23-year-old striker who has scored 81 goals in 108 league appearances for Ajax, including 35 in 33 last season.

Commolli has revealed that the versatile frontman is a big priority because the club are desperate to land a support striker for Fernando Torres before the window closes.

Speaking on French TV show Les Specialistes, Commolli said: "We want a forward because we lack pace and penetration on the flanks'.

Asked about highly-rated alternatives Gervinho and Eden Hazard at Lille, Commolli added: "Gervinho and Hazard are super players but I know the Lille board well and they won't sell in January."

Commolli's comments on Suarez came as Ajax last night warned they will keep Suarez until the summer unless Liverpool tie up the deal within days

It is very likely that Adam will sign for us this week. Think there was a rumour a few months ago that we paid his legal costs when Blackpool did not pay him bonuses. We might conclude this deal after Comolli returns from Amsterdam. I don't see Adam coming to us in the summer tbh. He will miss out on a great opportunity to play for us if he doesn't move now.

Interesting comments from Comolli about not having pace in the team. We should be looking for pacey wingers in the summer.

Pretty much everything I think has already been said. Our priority should be a player who can provide some steel in midfield, bite into tackles and then distribute to Raul and Gerrard. That player should take Lucas's place and ensure Pulsen doesn't play for us again.

But that player isn't Charlie Adam.

Adam's had a decent season so far, and can "put a ball on a sixpence" with that wand of a left foot, but he's hardly the most athletic of players, and I do wonder where he'd fit in. Certainly he's more talented than Lucas and Poulsen, but he seems to be the sort of palyer you need to build a side around, and he isn't good enough to build Liverpool around.

A Scottish Alonso. That isn't meant to be too damning, but it is accurate in many ways.

I have to agree with Silverlining and Code as much as I like Lucas and his qualities I still think we need an energetic, dynamic terrier like dm a la Sissoko (pre eye injury) or a Masch. I just think it is too easy to get through our midfield at times. From reports it seems that Comolli likes M'Vila for that role and I can't see him arriving before summer, so maybe rather than buy a second choice player they're buying someone in Adam who has other qualities we lack and are getting him in asap whilst his price is reasonable.

This is about it.

A waste of money for mine.

I am happy with Lucas in Europe and being a squad player for the league and maybe even starting in the domestic cups but for a team who wants to challenge he should not be starting.

I think Adam, Lucas and Spearing would provide good back up to the likes of Meireles and Gerrard and I would look at adding Defour.

Aquilani would fit the pass and move Liverpool style of old too.
