Yes. Do it.

They suck your eyeball out of its socket, laser it so you can smell the burning of your inner eye, then push it back in. All this whilst you're awake feeling hugely claustrophobic as loads of people are leaning in on you.

But it's better than glasses.

I might get it done eventually as my sight continues to slowly diminish and my crapness with glasses does seem to be ebbing away. If and when I do, I'll get it done in Thailand or India where the quality is higher and the prices are lower and combine it with a boss holiday.

My sister had it done a few years ago. She had both eyes done at the same time, and whilst she's now made up with the results, she reckons if she'd have known how painful it was, she'd never have gone through with it. She ended up walking around with bad Roy Orbison bins on for a fortnight. She also said she was made up she'd got them both done at the same time, as she'd never have gone back for the second one.

My sister is also a big baby though, who complains at the slightest thing... Take from this what you will, I hope it helps.

I'm getting it done on the 16th July so I'll let you know how it goes. The one thing I would say is definitly look around a few places first as there is a massive variation in quality of service and aftercare available.

I live in Ireland and am getting it done in the Balckrock clinic in Dublin but went to three other consultations first.

I've only been wearing glasses for the last 8 or 9 years but have been thinking of this for about the last 3. I'm geting married in September so decided to get it done before that. I never liked contact lenses so it makes even the simplest tasks annoying in the rain (playing golf, running etc)

I can't wait!!

I had it done it 2004 and it was at the time painful. The results are superb, I would recommend it to everyone. However, I have a friend who is a optometrist who explains its a different, and almost pain free, proceedure now. Do it.

I was thinking about having it done but after the first few seconds I have decided against it. I thought it was a laser that done ALL the work but apperently not, it looks fucking barbaric!!!!!!

FUCK THAT!

I lasted 23 seconds.

I'd read/heard that they cut a flap round your iris and I imagined the whole thing came up. That was enough to put me off. Fuck that Clockwork Orange/Marathon Man bullshit motherfuckas!

Mind you, I think I did a similar job of peeling my iris off a few times when desperately trying to 'remove' a contact lens I'd already removed when slashed up a few times, so maybe it's not all that bad.

The video you have shown is using an older method that most state of the art / modern clinics no longer use. That video showed the surgeon / optomitrist using an instrument called a microkeratome to create the flap in the cornea. The newer method and the method which I am geting done is the baldeless Lasik which uses a laser to make the cornea flap.

Your right though having looked at that video you posted there is no way I'd go along with that procedure as your basically getting your eyeball cut with a metal knife!!:(

Imagine the guy had been out on the ale the night before and was not in the best of conditions i.e. he was still pissed, or there was a little tiny blemish on the cutting toold that caused an imperfection on you eye as it cut.

And what happens if the flap just flops open while your bending over to ties your laces or something, or you tear it off as you rub your eyes!:whoops:

ive got that as well, im only wearing glasses 4 years, and i fucking hate them, i still refer to other people as "that speccy twat"

had it done 4 years ago, pretty painless, i got the lasek which is less invasive and only lifts the epithelial layer which renews every ten days or so. Glad I got them both done together, scares the fuck out of yer for the time the laser is burning - I was half way to trying to bail after one eyeball - smells of burnt cheese on toast. Got mine done by place on teh corner if castle street - recovery was a couple of days, but I had a swift pint in ye hole in the ye wall on the way home from the op. 6 months later turned out there had been minor overcorrection and I am now longsighted (very slightly), achieved the main aim of being able to see whilst swimming, when it's raining, playing footy etc.

Shit should have improved in last 5 years - i'd reccomend it

I saw something along time ago i think it was how its made. they put a little device on your eye slide it across then this cuts a layer of the i ball they fold this over then inject it so its stays still then do the laser work all while your awake pretty sick like.
