Looked like he got both the ball and the player to me at the same time. Player never had control, they’re about level with eachother certainly Van Dijk is level with the ball. Anywhere else on the pitch and I’m not sure it’s a yellow, let alone a straight red.

 

I can see the logic of denying a goal scoring opportunity but for me it goes out the window when the player has yet to control the ball and the defender is right there at the same moment it arrives.
 

We’ve just seen a similar incident on Mac Alister in the middle and it’s not even a card.
