Not sure why we would tell everyone. Why not just keep it under our hats, he could be 'rested' tomorrow and then we have a break for him to take it easy.

Now teams will know he's deffo out and they've got time to plan their sides for upcoming games.

Also (and no laughing at the back) if we are in the market to bringing in a defender, their price now goes up.

These injuries and Salah/Endo departures are an awful kick in the stones.

It will be remarkable if we’re still ahead of City in a few weeks’ time in the league, but we’ve a huge chance of winning each of the three cups, even if we’re depleted against Fulham tomorrow.

Bournemouth away now looks a very difficult fixture.

The Feb shout is only to train it seems!....

On Thiago and Bajcetic, Lijnders continued: "They will not be ready for the end of this month. It will probably be going into the next month to train with us. But both [with] no complications, progressing".

I suspect we are not bringing anyone in, so that side of it I guess is irrelevant. I do agree the rest of it there's no need to go  into it though. After Virgil has had a game off sick, it wouldn't be tough to roll out that excuse for this game.

  • 2 weeks later...

No Szobo this weekend.

Rest pretty much as was.

Jürgen Klopp does not expect any of Liverpool’s injured players to be back in time for Sunday’s Premier League clash with AFC Bournemouth.

Asked for an update on his squad’s fitness at his pre-Bournemouth press conference, the manager said: “They are all positive but not ready.

“But they are all going in the right direction, getting closer and closer and closer. Some of them might be in kind of part of team training next week.

“But for the Bournemouth game I don’t expect anybody back. I hope nobody [else] will be out until then.

“But after Bournemouth, maybe for Fulham, we will see how the boys do. But they are all close. Trent close, Dom close, Robbo close. All going in the right direction, that’s all positive, but for the weekend’s game, no.”

Didn't he say something when he went home to Hungary to get an award that while he might be back, they won't rush it?

Not sure but i never expect our players to come back from injury quicker than expected/what hear they might do.

Pepijn Lijnders has provided injury updates on Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kostas Tsimikas.

Robertson is set to travel to Fulham on Wednesday night for the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Craven Cottage having been sidelined since October, while Jones will also be available after being withdrawn late on in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

On Tuesday, Lijnders also offered an update to Liverpoolfc.com on the status of Szoboszlai, Alexander-Arnold and Tsimikas ahead of the midweek fixture…

Robertson

"Let's start with Robbo because he trained yesterday with the team. It's now 13 weeks, he had his meeting with the surgeon to make sure that everything is right to go into full contact – it's clear. So he did a lot of work and really good rehab throughout the last period, so he's fit in terms of sports science. Now he has to get fit with proper team training.

"So that's a big, big advantage to have him back. We were waiting for a long time – he's one of our captains. I just met him in the canteen and he said, 'Pep, I have my tracksuit with me!' So he's pushing himself into the squad, so that's good. He will travel [to Fulham].

"Speaking about Robbo, I have to speak about Joe [Gomez] because he used this opportunity. This guy, what he's doing this season and the levels he's reaching when he plays on the right and then he changes games and plays in the centre. Then he plays on the left and he's ready on the left on the outside but then he has to play inside from the left as well.

"He's a really good example of what we are all about. One player or even two players leave and then you have a lot of players who can play in different positions and that makes our squad so, so strong. He deserves the biggest compliment because he's probably one of the most consistent players in our team."

Jones

"When you play more games and when you are constantly in the team since a long, long time, you get also some small niggles. He already reported during the week some tension in his hamstring tendon. But yesterday [there were] no issues, so he was clear. And during the game it was more precautionary [because] we go 3-0 up and the guy, even if he's young, he acts like a senior, so he made the right decision."

Alexander-Arnold

"Trent is progressing well through his rehab, working hard – how he is as a guy, knowing how important the next weeks are. But he will back in the end of the week for team training, so hopefully he will be available for the FA Cup."

Szoboszlai

Dom trained yesterday with us, just one small-sided game, one-touch game, but played good, felt good, did some extra work with the sports science team. He is ready but tomorrow comes too early for him, so he will be ready for the weekend if nothing goes wrong."

Tsimikas

"Kostas is now four weeks after surgery, so he needs probably two more weeks because we need to make sure that the bone is strong and the bone is healed before he goes into first-team training."

Salah update too,

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has a "proper tear in his hamstring", says assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

Salah, 31, was replaced during Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast on Thursday.

He watched from the stands as Egypt reached the last 16 thanks to a dramatic 2-2 draw with Cape Verde on Monday.

"It's expected [he will] return in three to four weeks if everything goes smooth," said Lijnders.

"It will go smooth and it will go right because of how we've treated his body before."

Liverpool said Salah will return to the club on Wednesday for an "intensive rehabilitation programme".

They said his injury was "worse than first feared", but he will be treated with a "view to being back in action as soon as possible for club and country, giving him the best chance to return to compete at Afcon".
