Salah update too,

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has a "proper tear in his hamstring", says assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

Salah, 31, was replaced during Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast on Thursday.

He watched from the stands as Egypt reached the last 16 thanks to a dramatic 2-2 draw with Cape Verde on Monday.

"It's expected [he will] return in three to four weeks if everything goes smooth," said Lijnders.

"It will go smooth and it will go right because of how we've treated his body before."

Liverpool said Salah will return to the club on Wednesday for an "intensive rehabilitation programme".

They said his injury was "worse than first feared", but he will be treated with a "view to being back in action as soon as possible for club and country, giving him the best chance to return to compete at Afcon".

They are talking bollocks about afcon

If he has a torn hamstring there is no way he is playing in afcon - the final is on 11th Feb.

After today that leaves 19 days.

Absolutely no chance - they must just be saying it to pacify egypt, but there is no way he is playing in afcon IMHO.

Mo aside, player availability looks about to take a sharp upwards turn. Brilliant management and use of resources by Klopp and the back room team over the last month.

These problems bring opportunities too - we probably wouldn’t know what a potential asset Bradley was if Trent hadn’t been injured. He’s good enough that Trent’s minutes can be managed in the coming months if he’s tired.

I also like the look of Bobby Clark. Strong and direct for his age, though a bit raw for us still.

A torn hamstring. Fucking great.

Anyway, Gomez will be able to replace anyone. I support Joe Gomez FC.

Robbo and Trent back in, Joe Gomez moves to right wing until Salah returns.

Hopefully the discussion ends quickly and Egypt go out. Completely takes any pressure off his rehab and we get him back for arsenal.

After the 10th Feb, the day of the Asian cup final, we should have everyone bar Salah (Thiago, Bajcetic, Matip and Doak) back.

The return of Trent, Robertson, Tsimikas, Endo and Szoboszlai over the next 2-3 weeks will be huge additions, especially since Bradley, and even the other kids that have played recently, have further bolstered the squad.

GK: Allisson, Kelleher

RBs: TAA, Gomez, Bradley

CB: VVD, Konate, Quansah, Gomez

LB: Robertson, Tsimikas, Gomez, Beck

DM: Mac Allister, Endo

AM: Szoboszlai, Jones, Gravenberch, Elliott, Gakpo, Clark, McConnell

FW: Salah, Nunez, Jota, Diaz, Gakpo, Elliott, Gordon

If we are a bit lucky with injuries in the second half of the season, we should have a big enough squad to cope with 4 competitions. Hopefully the Carabao only has one more game left after tomorrow, and will be over by the time we play in Europe again. The FA cup is a bonus at the moment, for me anyway. There will be at least 6 non-Premier League teams in the last 16, so hopefully we get over Norwich and get another handy enough tie.

Europe will be tough but Klopp prefers when we are playing twice a week, especially when he has a reasonably fit squad to choose from. He has rotated the numbers very well so far.

We have 12/13 games between now and the first international break of 2024. The fixture list in February looks ok with no midweek game, until a potential FA Cup quarter final on the 28th, and Arsenal is probably the only game between now and City on 10th March, where we won't be odds-on to win. A huge six weeks ahead.

Jan 24 - Fulham - LC semi - 2nd leg

Jan 28 - Norwich FA cup- 5th Round

Jan 31 - Chelsea Premier League

Feb 04 - Arsenal Premier League

Feb 10 - Burnley Premier League

Feb 17 - Brentford Premier League

Feb 24/25 - Luton PL/LC Final *

Feb 28 - FA Cup Quarter final *

Mar 07 - Europa Rnd of 16 - 1st leg

Mar 10 - Man City Premier League

Mar 14 - Europa Rnd of 16 - 2nd leg

Nice to hear that Robbo is available for the squad tomorrow. He'll be rusty as fuck so won't start of course, and is unlikely to come off the bench unless there are a few minutes to go and the tie is wrapped up. Curtis should also be available after coming off injured at Bournemouth, which is another plus. Elsewhere, Trent and Dom could be OK for the weekend so might get a few minutes in readiness for the bigger games the following week.

Agreed. Our aim will be to ease them in gradually and hope they can give us an hour against Chelsea.

Yeah - although i'd be very surprised if he was fit for Arsenal anyway regardless of what Egypt do. That is a week sooner than the 19 days quoted above for the final.

Yeah, but I'm not sure he's as bad as all the noise. He was fine 2 days ago..I just think Egypt have got the hump. Unless I missed it (which I might as I've not been online much for the last couple of days), nobody at Liverpool is talking the same doom as Egypt? We're just saying we're getting him fit for the final. And if there's no final, who knows, maybe he's not that hurt.

I don't think you can underestimate how little Salah might have wanted to play for Egypt once they decided he was a midfielder.

His agent said 3 to 4 weeks and Pep said he's torn his hamstring earlier.

I'd be amazed if he's even in contention for the Arsenal game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai have ‘a chance’ to feature in Sunday’s clash with Norwich City.

Having booked their place in the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday night, Liverpool now turn attentions to their Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie with the Canaries at Anfield.

Robertson was back on the bench at Fulham having been sidelined since October with a shoulder issue, while Alexander-Arnold (knee) and Szoboszlai (hamstring) are nearing returns to full training.

Updating on the trio at his pre-Norwich press conference, Jürgen Klopp said: “There’s a chance for all of them but we will really have to see. It’s touch and go.

“Robbo is physically ready and I think it was good to have him in the matchday squad, and he’s completely in the normal team training schedule.

“Like Dom from tomorrow on. He had yesterday a session, today I think he has a day off as well and then from tomorrow on he is in completely normal. That means he is obviously ready for minutes.

“With Trent, is it already Norwich or is it the game after? We have to see. He was not in team training, not even parts of team training yet, so if he can be in tomorrow then I have to make a decision there. That’s it pretty much with these boys.

“So then we will see. It would be absolutely very helpful if they all could be involved, but we have to see.”

On the fitness of his squad generally, Klopp later added: “And I hope that Thiago [Alcantara] and Stefan [Bajcetic] will be back as well rather sooner than later, that would be cool.

“Kosti [Kostas Tsimikas] is close. Kosti is actually fit, Kosti just has to wait now for the green light because the bone healing takes much longer, but the plate is doing the job in the moment.

“Now we have to figure out when is one taking enough over, let me say it like that. And then he’s in training as well. He was not out that long, like Trent was not, like Dom was not.”

Hopefully nothing as Klopp suggests but all too often these things seem to end up being worse than first said...

Jürgen Klopp expects Alexis Mac Allister to return to Liverpool's squad for Wednesday's Premier League fixture with Chelsea.

The Argentina midfielder was left out of the Reds' Emirates FA Cup fourth-round win over Norwich City on Sunday due to a knock; however, the manager is confident he'll be able to call on his services again in midweek.

Klopp told his post-match press conference: "Alexis, I would say [if it was the] last game of the season, decider or whatever, he could have played, but in all games not.

"He felt a little bit and we just said no, no and I don't want to know more, so that's just it.

"We gave him a rest. I think he should be ready for Wednesday."
