They're all in National Team mode now.

I wonder if a few of them have been a for a while, and if it's impacted our run in.

Salah going to Afcon absolutely fucked us.

Excellent post, apart from all the words being absolute nonsense.

For a lot of players, their country commitments go well ahead of their club.

You don't think it was in the players minds that they'd want to be fit and firing for a major summer tournament? With their boss already checked out and wanting to leave? And the season collapsing?

I admire your optimistic view of professional footballers.

After the season has collapsed, of course they'll be wanting to avoid injuries (irrespective of what the boss is doing next season).  But the idea that they're playing within their limits, saving themselves for the summer, when there are still trophies to be won (at a time when trophy-winning performances would be the best way to book a place in the national squad) is fanciful, to say the least.  The finals of the Euros obviously played no part in the Anfield surrenders against Atalanta and Palace.

Also, our results after Salah went to AFCON are the ones that had us in contention for trophies.  Before he and Endo left, a lot of people reasonably said that we would be fucked, but in reality we weren't.  It's odd that you persist in being wrong, even with the benefit of hindsight.

Well, it's the rich tapestry of life. We all have our opinions and we like to air them on electronic message boards to strangers. Some of us are right, some of us are wrong. Most of us are wrong.

And we are off...

Arne Slot has provided an update on Andy Robertson's fitness, with the Liverpool left-back set to be ruled out of matches until after the USA tour.

Robertson is with the Reds squad currently in America but is undergoing a rehabilitation programme and will not be considered to feature on the pitch until the team return to Merseyside next month.

Slot told a press conference in Pittsburgh: "He is not fully fit yet. But we are expecting him in the end of the tour – maybe just after the tour – to be fully fit again.

"He took a small injury into the Euros and afterwards he had to recover from that after playing those games. But we will expect him back after our tour – but he joined us over here."

Arne Slot has confirmed Liverpool have a fully fit squad to select from for Saturday's Premier League opener at Ipswich Town.

The Reds will kick off their 2024-25 campaign at Portman Road against the newly promoted club, with the head coach able to call on all of his players.

Asked during his pre-match press conference at the AXA Training Centre on Friday morning if he had a full squad to pick his line-up from, Slot replied: “Yes, we have.”

Liverpool will train on Merseyside later this afternoon in their final session before the fixture.

The team then travel to Suffolk afterwards in advance of tomorrow’s 12.30pm BST kick-off.

Fully fit team, fuck me. Did that ever happen in the Klopp era? Like ever?

There were very obvious upsides to the Klopp era. Many players weren’t suited to the required training levels, though, and we didn’t seem to tailor programmes for them to any great extent.

Quansah:

He reacted in the way you would expect. We spoke to him after the game and then after on Sunday, he asked if he could train. On Tuesday he picked up a bit of an injury and couldn't train Wednesday, let's see today. I don't think there is too much into it but maybe the language was an issue, I said he did not lose every duel and it has been said that I said he lost every duel. I said to the team the day after the team didn't do well [first half], it was not about Jarell."

This will be interesting. In previous years he would be back after the October international break with this sort of news. Let's see how this one goes.

After the match, Slot admitted Jones faces a race against time to recover before the trip to Old Trafford.

"It's going to be close," Slot said of Jones. "It's always difficult to see how an injury evolves during the upcoming week.

"He won't be out for a long time but it will be close for him to be here next week. But I'm quite sure he will try to do everything to be ready for next week. It's not a big injury"
