When Dom went off tonight he'd signalled the bench and was holding his left hamstring as he walked around the pitch. I dunno if anything was said on klopp's presser after the game, but he looked pretty uncomfortable to me.

Jürgen Klopp confirmed Dominik Szoboszlai sustained a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Newcastle United.

The midfielder was withdrawn in the 64th minute of the New Year’s Day encounter at Anfield, with the manager revealing during his post-match press conference the No.8 had picked up the issue.

Klopp said: “We wanted to take him off, that was the plan, but unfortunately it was somehow a minute late because in the last situation he felt the hamstring.

“Now we don’t know the extent of it, obviously, so we have to wait.”

Fucks sake. I've been saying for a while he looked like he needed that mid season break and if he'd got through yesterday, I think there's every chance he wouldn't have played again until the 2nd leg of the semi.

Klopp has confirmed its a hamstring injury, but needs testing to find out how bad it is.

Szoboszlai

Klopp on Szoboszlai: "It's an injury. Muscle, hamstring. We will have to see. Dom is very positive, not a lot of pain but no chance for Sunday. Not for then Wednesday. Then we will see. After that, hopefully, he might be back but we don't know."

mmmm..... less than 2 weeks for a hamstring? surely with the midseason break just after the next league game, they will give him that.

Don't think we will miss him personally. Never seen a player so spectacularly fall off a cliff since everyone last season.

i think he will be a loss. while his form hasn't been what it was, his work rate has for an hour or so each game. we don't get that (and he is effective in what he does without the ball, not just random running about) from probably anyone else but Jones. Also, his "natural" replacement is probably Elliot. Who has mostly filled in for Salah in the games he's not started too.

Thing is though mate that shouldn't be why we bought him. You watch him for Hungary and he's played to his strengths. Seems a bit of a waste of his talent imho.

I'd rather have him assist a few goals or score goals than run around hard for 60 minutes. Why don't we let the ball do more of the work instead of turning players into grafters?

He hasn't played well going all the way back to Bournemouth away in the EFL with only small cameos here and there, thats about 12 games. Personally I don't understand such a form downturn. At least Hendo and Fab where getting on in years.

Ironically that's what everyone said about Jones and it kept him out of the team.

I'd rather have Klopp make the tactical decisions on the midfield.

Of course, thats his job, not mine.

However we all have eyes and the guy has been bang out of it for a few months now.

Our next game after Fulham is on the 21st of January so that would be three weeks after the Newcastle game, seems realistic if it's only a strain.

people used to say that about Gini. He'd go off for holland and score loads and then he'd come to us, use the ball well, block passing lanes, backup the forward press very well and never look like scoring. What I am absolutely certain of, is last year we had nobody running and we were shit. This year we seem to have loads running and we are a much better side. And if the ball lands 20 yards from goal and there's a shot on, Dom for sure will make a better effort of it than Henderson ever did.

Also international football is such a low quality, what players do there for me is not a reflection on what they can do in the premier league anyway. And Dom is their main man and absolutely everything will go through him, a little like we put everything through Mo. He's not going to be that here yet. He might be in time and had he not got injured, with Mo out, this might have been the time to show it. But he is injured, so we won't know. For me Dom puts the yards in, so Mo can do less.

We need as many fit and available midfielders as we can get so Szobo being fit soon would be massive for us

As it stands all we have is:

Mac Allister

Jones

Gravenberch

Elliott - and he is likely to be asked to play in front 3 in Salah's absence.

That is threadbare.

He is given a free role when he plays for Hungary because he is their most talented player and if things didnt go through him, they would have trouble creating chances. In high level club football, you need to be Messi to get a free role nowadays, its not the same.

As terrible as he has been with the ball recently, he has been very valuable without it. Its just absolutely clueless to say we wont miss him, as if uber athletic 6 foot + midfielders who run 10k per game grow on trees.
