Keita, Goretzka and Lanzini. I'd like to see Zaha join us also, I think he'd flourish under Klopp.

Lanzini? He’s shite, typical highlights player. MOTD will make him look good until a gets a move to a big club and will be shit and out of his depth. Doesn’t score or assist many which is terrible for his position. He’s at the stage in his career now that Coutinho was at when we signed him, the difference being Coutinho was about 20 and Lanzini is 24.

What players do PSG have who would come part ex for Coutinho? I’m thinking Draxler, plus one other player from PSG, plus enough cash for VVD (so long as that deal is tied up) and be done with it.

Keita to come, go all out for Goretzka on a free, and we’re in business. Mostly.

It would all depend on how much they’d value some of the players and some of their probable wage demands. Players like Pastore, who was brilliant a few years ago but doesn’t play so much now, if he was valued at around the £10m mark that he should be then someone like him would be worth it. Rabiot is quality and my guess would be he’d be the next person they replace, possibly even with Coutinho. They’ll want a big name centre midfielder to go with their big name attack and Veratti.

Goretzka and Keita is my hope.

Why is it that so many people think that Goretzka is a brilliant midfielder?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't turn my nose up at getting him on a free, and this is just my opinion, but I think people would be disappointed if he actually came since he seems a bit overrated by some of our fans.

Actually, I think he's about the same level as Matip.  Definitely a competent player, not a difference-maker but easily good enough to be a squad player/borderline first XI player on a league-winning team (which is the level we're aiming to be, no?).

I actually think Goretzka is more or less as good as Can.  Maybe a bit of potential to be slightly better in a few years, given his age, but he's hardly going to transform us.  Keita is that level, Goretzka is some distance from it IMO.

Defense, especially centre back, remains our biggest weakness and the position we should address first, but I do agree that we need Keita plus one more, especially since Can is leaving.  I know he'd be really expensive but my first choice would be Milinkovic-Savic. A midfield of SMS and Keita plus one from Lallana/Wijnaldum/Henderson is genuinely at league-winning level.  Plus it's young enough to get even better over the next 5 years.

Agree about Goretzka. We need technique or a guy who makes us hard to break down in the middle.

Goretzka does none of those things. He's more of a big #10 who can pop up with some goals.

What we need first and foremost is Keita's future midfield partner because lord knows he isn't currently at this club and Goretzka aint that guy, Imo.

I think Goretzka can be ONE of those guys, I just think he can't be the only one.

Again, it's rather like Matip. Excellent signing on a free, and if he were your third- best centre back, you'd say "yeah, that's a central defense that can win the title with a bit of luck." It's when he's the best you've got that it's a problem.

Similarly, if Goretzka is starting alongside Keita and Milinkovic-Savic, then we're set. But if he's your second-best midfielder, well, then you're starting to set your sights on "competing for top 4" instead of the title.

100% agree.

SMS and Keita together would be incredible.

I’ve watched a bit of him in the past. First he’s big and strong... already better than three quarters of our current centre mids. He’s a perceptive passer of the ball... something Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Milner aren’t. He’s also a goal-threat... something you can’t accuse too many of our centre mids of. All that at 22. He’s widely seen as Germany’s best young player at the moment.. I’m sure some here would be disappointed.. but given the state of our midfield, that’d be the footballing equivalent of...

You're underrating Goretzka there. We've got a lot of average players that offer virtually nothing in the way of defence, goals or assists in our midfield. Goretzka would improve us. On a free transfer it's a no brainer, especially seeing as Can is out the door.
