Man City - the new bitters?

One of those games where both clubs are just horrible and you desperately want both to lose. Can't see anything other than a City victory in the tie. Some non-trivil injuries for both sides would be nice.

    Other Football - 2019/20

Yeah, this whole ‘poor little hard done to Chelsea’ thing really gets in my tits. They spent £100m in 2019, including £40m on Kovacic during a transfer ban (how did that work?!), Fwank inherited a strong squad including 3 World Cup winners, multiple PremierLeague winners, more international midfielders than you can shake a stick at, £71m goalkeeper, and a crop of outstanding youngsters (by virtue of dodgy youth recruitment practices that got them the transfer ban in the first place). Yet Fwank is portrayed as some sort of plucky underdog!

Man City - the new bitters?

Ake is presumably Kompany's replacement, as that now brings them back to 4 centre backs. But - he clearly doesn't rate either Stones or Otamendi (who does?!), so he's probably still in the market for another one, Koulibaly maybe. If not, Ake and Laporte - an improvement on this season, but a big step down from Kompany & Laporte.

    *Shakes head* Everton again.

They won’t acknowledge that when the season was suspended out GD was better than City’s by 8 goals. The title was done within 5 days of restart and we’ve been coasting since.... while City have been doing their flat track bully party piece against teams who had mostly given up. That would require some rationality and balance.

Premier League Round Up (Jul 18-22 2020)

Great round-up as ever. Totally agree on Watford. Any team losing 12-0 on aggregate to City should be dissolved let alone relegated. Didn't watch last week's game but at City, they just didn't try, didn't even attempt to keep the score down. All the more galling when they have the tools to damage City - quick players like Sarr and, earlier on, Deuloufeu who could exploit that wide open defence on the counter. You're right about refereeing being a seriously tough job and I've no idea why anyone would want to do it. But the current crop (or should I be using word of the year 'cohort'?) make it much harder than it should be and are so crap that slagging them off should be mandatory.

    Liverpool 5 Chelsea 3 (Jul 22 2020)

Don't know if anyone has mentioned, but Trent's cross for Bobby's goal was the 19th pass of a move where we moved the ball slickly around them from one side to the other until the opening was created. I don't know why Marriner hesitated before giving that absoultely clear-cut foul against Kovacic. It was similar to the penalty appeal against Burnley in that the defender may have got the slightest of tounches on the ball but the attacking player was still in control - until cleared out by the defending player. Hence we should have had a penalty against Burnley and the foul was correct here. Marriner seems to hate giving any decisions at all these days, just likes to keep his head down and breeze through a game - should have been put out to grass years ago. And the Azpilicueta barge on Mane woud have been given outside the area. We played some lovely stuff in bursts, and it was really satisfying that we scored five whilst hardly ever getting into top gear against a good side desperate for points - including doing their best to rough us up. How did that work out for you, Frank?

Premier League Round Up (Jul 14-17 2020)

That Ramsdale goalie for Bournbemouth looked quite good a while ago, pulling off some decent saves. Just like Henderson. The more I see of both of them, the less impressed I am. The two disallowed goals against - you guessed it - the two Manc teams just underline how useless the refereeing community is. If it's that close a call that you can't measure it and spend minutes on end jiggling about with the graphics, surely you just call it leve with the defender? Far too common sensible for those idiots. Also during the City game, there was a shout for a handball/penalty against Silva, when he stopped a cross (throw-in?) hitting his face with his hand. Penalty all day long for me. Commentator says - 'that's allowed, he's protecting his face'. Completely different to the Doherty situation, with the flying boot. I'd have been embarrassed to come up with that excuse when I was playing for my junior school team!
  8. Arsenal were very ‘Arsenal’ last night, despite the fact that it was a dead rubber. Going down under minimal contact (that Saka is already a fully fledged Arsenal hit-the-deck-er), kicking the ball away, time wasting etc. That Ceballos, Poundland Ozil, needs a good punch in the face, that mid-air jump into Minamino was real shithouse stuff. (I shouldn’t be so pissed off, we’re Champions ffs.... just can’t help myself)

Man City - the new bitters?

Massive fucking hypocrite to boot. Parading his support for self-determination for Catalonia, calling Sterling a 'humanitarian' for his BLM support, when they happily take outrageous amounts of money from the people who are part of a foul regime which denies basic human rights to migrant workers and women and persecutes the LGBT community. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_the_United_Arab_Emirates https://www.amnesty.org.uk/groups/westminster-and-bayswater/oscar-jenz-and-joe-odell-about-human-rights-united-arab-emirates But of course none of this gets mentioned by our sycophantic sports media.

    Liverpool 1 Burnley 1 (Jul 11 2020)

Just seen that penalty call again. From his position, there’s no way the ref can see if the Burnley lad gets the ball. If the ref gives the penalty, no way does it get overturned by VAR. And it should definitely be a penalty because even though the defender looks to get studs on the ball, it’s still in Robbo’s reach and he’s clear round the back...... except the defender then clears him out. That’s the 4th(I would argue 5th) nailed on penalty we’ve been denied in the last 3 home games.
  11. Haven’t seen such a thing since...... last time Burnley were at Anfield, when Andre Marriner allowed a goal to stand despite two Burnley players blatantly fouling Alisson (and replays showed that Marriner had an unobstructed view - make of that what you will)

    Other Football - 2019/20

No transparency. No accountability. Lots of incompetence. Some clear bias. Lots of back covering of their mates. The technology is not perfect but works just fine most of the time. The problem is with the users. Cahill and Dublin on MotD were talking about having ex-pros in the VAR room, which makes sense. However you only need to have played a bit of footy at amateur level, which probably most of us on here have done, to have an appreciation of what these players are up to and when they're conning the refs. It's crystal clear that none of the current refs have played any footy based on the number of times they woefully misinterpret situations.
  13. How does the photo ID thing work - do they ask you to send a photo of your driving licence/passport? (is thta why they recommend using a phone?)
  14. Pretty dire. But......it's blowing an absolute gale up here, you can see the ball clearly holding up, fading, sticking etc. I don't think the two muppets on the commentary team have mentioned it once. Must be sitting indoors in front of a screen.
  15. Only one defender on the bench. Did I hear the other day that Lovren is injured? Again.

    Manchester City 4 Liverpool 0 (Jul 2 2020)

Pretty much captures most of my feelings. I was pretty confident when the team news cam out and after 20 minutes I could only see one winner, and it wasn't City. We were much the better team early on, could/should have had a couple and they looked really nervous at the back. We were getting behind them regularly in that phase. I don't necessarily agree with the Ederson handball thingy, but he definitely gained an advantage and the episode once agan underlines the handball anomaly i.e. accidental handball gets treated differently when it's about scoring a goal versus stopping one. I agree with Klopp that the main difference was about using the moments, they did, we didn't. I think the reason we didn't was that, although the effort and willingness was there, we didn't have the sharpness and focus in the head to exploit the moments. That's the only way I could explain the stupid decisions (Robbo going awol, Trent throwing it in straight to to one of theirs) or the complete lapses in concentration - Sadio letting the ball run past him when the goal was gaping. Anthony Taylor lived down to expectations - we were still winning the ball back from them high up late in the game - only for him to give them soft free kicks. Taylor or Tyler, can't decide who's the bigger cunt. Let's hope we get our heads sorted out for the remaining games, it would be such a shame for this brilliant season to fizzle out in a whimper.
  17. I wonder if Taylor would have given it had it been at the other end. Answers on a postcard......

Man City - the new bitters?

And guess what, the same ref (Taylor) who arguably cost us the title with that appalling decision has been chosen for next Thursday‘s game. Couldn’t make it up.

    Everton (A) 21/6/2020

That's cos he only ever gets to referee us in derby matches, and there's absolutely no evidence that he's ever favoured either team. Referees from Greater Manchester, however, regularly officiate City or United games. Struggling to see the consistency there, but, hey, what's new?

We talking Supremes or Bananarama here?
  22. Werner would have been great for us 2/3 seasons ago when we were more into Heavy Metal/Gegenpress. Not sure he's got the right attributes for us now when everyone, inclduing City, are wary of even coming out of their own half. He likes space to run into - we don't get so much of that now. I thought keita was brilliant in his breakthrough season with Leipzig. He and Ox give us something Gini and Hendo don't, which is the ability to break the lines, through either dribbling (Keita), or power/pace (Ox). I watched the Leicester away game again the other day, Keita played really well for 70 minutes - as did everyone that night. There's more to come, and next season, if and when that happens is crucial - he really needs to kick on. If he continues to be injury-prone and unreliable, then it's deffo time to get shut. Finally, an arl arse comment - as a kid, all I ever wanted to do was go out and kick a ball. Doing it on a computer would have been a very distant second. Watching somebody else playing footy on a computer......jeez.
