Sadio Mane wanted £393k/week to stay at Liverpool but club rejected idea – Bild

Sadio Mane and his agent went to Liverpool and asked for €24m/year in a prospective new deal – which works out at exactly £392,830/week after the euros to pounds conversion.

This is according to Sport Bild, translated for us by reliable Twitter journalist iMiaSanMia.

For this money, it’s perhaps no surprise Liverpool walked away from negotiations, although form the player’s perspective, you can see why he’d want to be paid akin to the best footballers on the planet, given how highly he’ll rank in this year’s Ballon d’Or.

According to the report, Bayern are considering offering Mane €20m/year, which the player is content with. The figure is far, far more than he’s currently on at Liverpool, of course.

The Athletic reckon Liverpool will demand ‘significantly more than the €30 million fee that has been reported in Germany,’ which is good – as there’s no way we’ll be able to get a forward who can even tie Mane’s boots for that kind of money.

The list of potential replacements is already into double figures, and you’d have to assume the Reds won’t sanction a sale until a new forward has been lined up or even better, already through the door.

With Luis Diaz our first-choice down the left, it would make more sense for Liverpool to look at bringing in a centre-forward. This is where Mane has been for the past six months.

It might be that for the first time in many a season, Liverpool can consider signing a more traditional centre-forward, as opposed to the false-9s Jurgen Klopp has preferred for most of his tenure.

Woof obviously been underpaid in last contract looking to make up the perceived difference . Let BM pay the premium. Have to admire his commitment to LFC cause last 6 months however get more of a feeling now it was a look what I can do come and get me period . If he seals that deal fair play. We won't be matching it .

I think it was the same situation with Gini.

I remember him being on a surprisingly low wage compared to other players.

350k.per.week. so less than mane is asking. And he scores at about twice the rate of mane.

Lew's workrate is nowhere near Mane as that is what expected of him from Klopp. Lew has everyone passing to him and we have Salah not passing to anyone even during wretched form.

Mane may not score as many as Lew but Lew does score quite a lot of 4th or 5th in 4 or 5-0 games as he is such a good finisher. Whereas Mane will be busy tracking back for us and closing down.

I'm not saying we should trade players. There's a reason forwards are the best paid in each team. Goals are what it's about.

I dont see why Mane would want to leave (money aside) we are head and shoulders above Bayern at the moment so hes basically going to win a few titles?

Presumably more money, guaranteed league titles, a decent chance of winning the Champions League again.

Would he not have that here? not Guaranteed titles but a challenge for titles (i would rather have a challenge than just turn up to win them) I don't see Bayern having a better chance to win the CL either he would probably get a few quid more (in multi-millionaire terms) Maybe he wants to be the main man? just seems the supposed reasons if true are a bit weak.

I think that's harsh. There aren't many clubs that are European royalty, and in a good league, but Bayern are one of them. It's his last chance at a big move. I can fully understand why he might fancy it.

Mad when you think about it.

Liverpool have just come within touching distance of the greatest season any English club side has ever had and 2 of the big hitters wanna fuck off.

As others have said, the oil money is ruining the game for the rest. Surprised the yanks haven't pushed for a wage cap yet, don't they have something like that in NFL?

Don't get me wrong, Bayern is a massive club I'm not implying anything other than that, But as far as the league its a bit poor Bayern remind me of a Utd from the late 90's early 2000's they throw money at the best players in the league they out muscle financially all the other clubs even Dortmund who have been their closest rivals for years and they win titles at a canter. Look at Lewandowski the goals he scored for them are unbelievable and should have won the ballon 'dor but he lost out I think a lot of that is down to the league he plays in just out of curiosity does anyone know who the last Ballon 'dor winner was from the german league?. IF it's his last big move financially then he should just say that nothing wrong with that but to say he needs a new challenge is just a bit weak there isn't much of a challenge with Bayern in the bundersleague

Wasn't that getting mooted as part of the super league plan?

Players have been getting paid insane wages for years now.

Well, I think winning the Champions League with another club is a challenge.

Also simply performing at a high level for them isn't a guarantee. Since Ribery and Robben their wide players have been a mixed bag and, if he is to replace Lewandowski down the middle, that's a pretty big challenge.

For me, if a player wants to go and play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus or one of the Milans, fair enough.

And in Mane's case -

Quote

"Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches, or two planes? What will these objects do for me and for the world? I was hungry, and I had to work in the field; I survived hard times, played football barefooted, I did not have an education and many other things, but today with what I earn thanks to football, I can help my people," Mané explained. "I built schools, a stadium, we provide clothes, shoes, food for people who are in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people in a very poor region of Senegal which contributes to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips and even planes. I prefer that my people receive a little of what life has given me

- I think it's unlikely he's just being a greedy cunt.
