Terminator 2

The first one is better.

John Conner bugs me in the second one.

Indeed, he's a proper little twat.  I've watched 3 and Salvation in the last two weeks; 3 is a total bag of dicks but at least you get to perv over Kristanna Loken in that red leather suit.  I still can't decide whether I like Salvation or not and I've seen it four or five times now.  2 is good, saw it at the cinema when it came out and the effects were truly groundbreaking at the time, also the car chase is boss. The first is still the best for me though.

It shouldn't be too much to ask, but the fact that this is a sequel which actually follows on from the first film in a way that makes sense really impresses me.  After what she went through in the first film, it makes sense that Sarah Connor should become a bit mad, toughen up and fall in with survivalists (rather than returning to suburban mediocrity) and her sheer terror when she first sees Arnie is also spot on.

I actually prefer it to the first, although you can't have one without the other.

("Interesting" fact - I once watched it dubbed in Spanish.  Apparently, the Spanish for "Hasta la vista, Baby" is "Sayonara, Baby".)

T2 is to The Terminator what Aliens is to Alien. Directed by James Cameron, far more action-centric, less focussed on the fear of the unknown aspect, yet never losing sight of why that fear of the unknown aspect was so interesting in the original film in the first place.

I'm not the biggest fan of this. The Edward Furlong character is thoroughly irritating (I was almost willing the T1000 to gut the little twat) and the notion of Arnie as a 'non-killy/father figure' Terminator is horrible.

The less said about the 'Thumbs-up' ending the better. Fucking hell.

As others have pointed out though, there are some brilliant action sequences and it has aged very well; it's hard to believe it's the best part of 25 years old.

The first film is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever - an undisputed classic.

Sentimental tosh.

Though I suppose this was Cameron's take on the nature of fatherhood, as Aliens was his take on motherhood (apparently Aliens incorporated elements of a story Cameron had developed called 'Mother').

Barristers. Stick to Gosford Park.....
