I certainly hope he sticks around a little longer. The man's shown he can do something when he's not working on a shoestring budget--Torres was the absolute ideal player to bring in, in so many ways. I hope to see Rafa given a few more years and the chance to exchange some of our mildly talented players for a couple more of those ideal players. He's proven to be just what the club needed to turn things around. However, should he never manage another game for us, he's certainly earned the thread title: Respect.

As Dirk said a while back he's the only person at the club who cares about it's future.

A man with his pride would have walked out ages ago but he's stayed purely to try and see it through a storm, he shames Parry and Moores who profess to love the club, and even if Rafa leaves at some stage, he will go down as a legend in Shanks and Paisley's league when it all comes out in the wash.

True that.

While the snakes were busy trying to feather their own nests, he saw the way they operate and tried and succeeded in smoking them out twice and even if he flops like a Jellyfish on a wet mattress from now on, he will be a legend for his part in shaping the future of this club by his actions. He has earned his stripes and he has more than earned time to get things right and put pots on the sideboard.

I would love the Man to be given the backing and have one season with his first choice signings in the team he would Piss all over Chelsea and Manure

I would love to see how Manure would do if they couldnt spend more than 10m on a star player and 6 m for the rest that would be no Rooney Anderson Nani Carrick Hardgreaves Ferdinand Ronaldo Tevez

The Man has done wonders with what he has had. Forget about 100m plus that they like to spout he has worked with around 20m a year and had to turn over a club from top to bottom without dropping out the top 4 with that money.

Hail Rafa

Whatever happens we owe a lot to Rafa who even in May put his job on the line to out the Americans for what they are. Him and Bascombe have played a blinder.

Thank you Gafa.

There was me thinking he usually 'surrenders'. The man's always had balls. You'll have a go at him tomorrow if we don't win.

You can't knock him too much when he has took us to 2 Champions League finals in 3 years. He deserves more time definitely. Alright we haven't made great strides in the league but he's shown that given money, he can make great acquisitions and that deserves a lot of credit. I believe he can get us the league in the next few years.

These are the facts! He's has nowhere near enough money to play catch up. We scrape around for deals on decent players, but not players who will move us on.

He has done a great job, but can he take us to the next level?

Increased funds would certainly help, but I feel that he needs to change his approach to certain games in order to bridge the gap.

Wenger hasn't spent £20m on a player & has re-built the Arsenal team & they are up there challenging.

Nonsense. Benitez has played the press perfectly, he's not stupid and this hasn't been just about the Americans. This has been as much about him and his career as anything else, now when he leaves, whether it be this summer or not, he'll be made to look even more of a hero. Had all this shite with the Americans not come out would Rafa have as much support with everyone now? I don't think so.

And as for comparing him with Shanks and Paisley, not a chance.

I love Rafa and want him to stay, but I doubt he had anything in mind other than getting more money for transfers. He doesn't seem to the be the type to worry about the long term effects for the club, etc, and it's all about the job. And these type of political boardroom battles are the norm back in Spain.

It's important that we keep the manager and his ability to win the leaque seperate from the ownership issue, as we could end up turning him into a martyr like figure.
