  1. I'm disappointed that we're not a few points clear at the top. I think everyone can agree that draws at home have cost us. But at the same time, dwelling on that point will get us nowhere. I think positivity will help massively from the fans at Anfield, it always gets players running that bit more, trying that bit harder. I think that Rafa could certainly do with a bit more positivity too. Overall, as others have said, this is the first time I can actually see Liverpool in with a shout at this stage of the season, and for that reason alone, I'm staying positive. To answer the original post, yes, I'd have taken this at the start of the season. But having seen how the seasons' unfolded, you can't help but feel a little disappointed.
  2. If we sign Heskey back, I'd have to give Rafa a swift kick in the balls, then get on with supporting him, the team and Heskey.
  3. Will somebody post a link to watch the game live from this website please? My laptop wont download!!!!!
  4. X-Box 360 or PS3? Football Manager or Championship Manager? Also, can you get FM or CM for a console or is it better to get it for a laptop? Am looking at buying one from both questions.
  5. Just read that first post back to yourself, somewhere quiet where you can't be disturbed and ask yourself this question ... does it make sense? Let me give you a clue. The answer is no.
  6. It's simple, Rafa rested Keane and Riera because they had knocks. EVERYONE knows that is a fact. Rafa rotated Agger so that Sami could cope with Crouch, which he did very well I thought. Rafa rotated Masch I think because he's been at the Olympics to begin with, came back late, then got injured. Either way Lucas played well last night so it was a good call. I find it hard to imagine why anyone would criticise Rafa for his selections in this game, he pretty much got it spot on. As for saying that playing 20 - 30 minutes requires similar energy or effort as playing a full game, that's just ridiculous to be honest. As someone has already said, 26 from 30 points, if that is Rafa at his worst, I can't wait for him to find form.
  7. I thought the songs being sung were ones that only the old die hard fans know from start to finish, so the rest of the kop don't know the words to them. I sat in the Kemlyn and you could hear quite a bit of singing but it was quiet and mostly from the main block at the back. The shite weather doesn't help though. My balls had disappeared after 15 minutes.
  8. Just read this from start to finish, you can tell the exact point at which people have just seen Chelsea winning 5-0! The title of this thread has already put the mockers on any win! Why would you utter the words so many of us are hoping for in our quiet moments? Never ever say anything out loud that you want to happen, karma hears it straight away and loads it in his gun ready to shoot you in the knackers.
  9. Don't think anyone can have too many complaints with Riera so far, he's played pretty well in most of the games he's played. If he keeps on getting mintues on the pitch, he'll only improve. A good signing I think.
  10. Clearly Keane can't fill in like for like, they're two different players. The key is can the team, whoever those 11 are, adapt so that we play to our strengths on the day? We've coped in the past without big players in big games, and I'm not just talking about Man Utd this season. Two up top, or one with one playing off, whoever fills those positions, they should be good enough to beat Wigan. No disrepect or under-estimation there either by the way! Whatever 11 we put out will be strong and should be capable of beating Wigan. Simple as.
  11. Did I ever tell you about the time I changed Brian Blesseds' car tyre? We'd just had lunch with John Sessions ...
  12. Was listening to the radio yesterday and heard this belter from 50 cent. "I love you like a fat kid loves cake". Quality. What are your favourite lyrics of all time?
  13. Surely if you sign someone now, it is easier to get them ready for the season with Liverpool. If we wait a month, it could be September before Rafa is happy that player is fit, settled and ready to play. To be honest though, I am a bit jumpy with transfers. I like just waking up on a sunny morning to a done deal.
  14. Don't most managers pay over the odds now for players though? I've argued before that until we're in a position to just sign players without too much bother over prices, we'll struggle to catch up with other top sides. I'm not saying pay over the odds for average players, but if Rafa thinks Barry is good enough to play regularly, which I would imagine he does, why not pay the extra few million and get him in now?
  15. I know there are a whole host of issues to consider when trying to sign one player, let alone trying to sign several as we are this summer. But is there something to be said for just picking the two or three that you REALLY need and paying what's being asked for them, rather than haggle over 2 million here and 3 million there, and possibly ending up with players who are a good signing at a particular price? I'm not mad keen on Barry, but if Benitez wants him that's good enough for me, so why not just sort the deal out quickly and get him in rather than offereing 10m, then 12, then 13, then 15 with add-ons? Same goes for Robbie Keane, if Rafa wants him, why not stump up with an offer very close to the asking price rather than starting the bidding off very low and slowly working up? (I know we haven't done that yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if it went that way). I know it's tough with the two knob-jockeys holding the purse strings, but I wouldn't mind seeing a few things tied up quickly so we're well prepared for the season. Any thoughts?
  16. Mine is Ronnie Rosenthal's last minute winner against Everton, I went absolutely ballistic when that nestled in. Closely followed by Dalglish against Wimbledon in a shock 2-1 defeat at Anfield. Took it with his back to goal, turned past one man, skipped by another and pinged it into the top corner. Sadly I'm too young to have seen much of Kenny live, but that always sticks out in my mind.
  17. Everything is cyclical. We were the top dogs for the best part of 20 years, and top dogs in Europe for the best part of 77-85. Now it's their turn. Very hard to stomach with that bastard in charge, but I take much comfort from the fact that our successful managers were decent fella's, not something Ferguson will ever be able to achieve. Anyway, as I said, it's all cyclical and I reckon if we can just find a bit of money and a bit of patience with Rafa, he'll get us the title before too long. In the mean time, be happy, you're a Liverpool fan.
  18. Expectations have got to be to win a trophy next year. Any less and I think Rafa could (rightly or wrongly) lose his job. We've got to go closer in the league though, that should be first on the list of priorities.
  19. Good little full back. Sold him and didn't really keep anyone better. Well done.
  20. N'ah, Beardsley was still Priemership quality 5 or 6 years later. Regardless of money we got, sold him far too early. JB - my favourite Red ever. Pure class and quality footballer. A lot of current veterans who played with him in their younger and his older days still call him one of the best they've played with or against.
  21. Had this discussion it the pub yesterday. Opinions?
  22. They're both going to move on IMO. Rafa's not spiteful, he has no sentiment in football, you only have to look at his relationship with players. They've all said he's not an 'arm round your shoulder' manager, and I don't think that's a bad thing. Did neither Crouch or Riise do the lap? That's shocking if it's true.
  23. What's red and smells like green paint? Red paint.
  24. I think he could become one of the best players around if he progresses over the next couple of years. He looks terrifying when he's on form, massive potential to be a great attacker.
