Strangely enough my worst footballing fashion faux pas was also at a Chelsea home game in the mid seventies.

On a rainy day at Anfield I lashed out 30p on a ' Cally is Magic ' silky to wrap around my wrist without thinking about the vagaries of quality control at this price point ,and subsequently woke the next day to find my favourite white Flemings jeans had an unwanted raspberry ripple effect to them.

Only a Knight of The Kop could pull off a pair of white jeans. I’m sure the raspberry ripple effect only added to the legend.

I bought a nice plain white T shirt and wore it for the Spurs title winning home game back in 82,I think? It was a baking hot day,the Kop was packed and I had a match day programme which I stuffed in the waist of my jeans against my plain white T shirt. I believe it was the first and last time I wore it.

Brilliant. I remember turning up in a pair of wellies on the Kop for the 4th Fa cup tie against Spurs in 85- was helping someone clear some snow beforehand and unintentionally went straight to match. Fortunately, was wearing the 84-85 winter uniform of blue and red Kappa coat and baggy green Burmos , which went well with the wellies.

of course that year,  Chelsea turned up at Anfield with probably the finest away following we’ve ever seen.

Well we had it tough. We used to have to get up out of the shoebox at twelve o'clock at night, and LICK the road clean with our tongues. We had half a handful of freezing cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at the mill for fourpence every six years, and when we got home, our Dad would slice us in two with a bread knife.

I wore wellies for gloves with my Ma's knickers on my head. A 3 star jumper that wasn't halfway up my back and 2 left shoes that where 10 sizes too small and the Chelsea fans laughed.

And then the King scored......and you thought  you had it bad at Chelsea?

I celebrated the ‘86 title with with a plate of four sausages in a sea of marrowfat peas. A meal that would be repeated in ‘88 and ‘90.

This was just one of many small things I used to do that, when added together, made my contribution to Liverpool’s success in that era significant.

I’m not certain I was thinking of Kenny’s smile as I ate on that evening in 1986, but I know I have many times since.
