Mølby was awesome in his time. Alonso was awesome in his time.

Mølby was more awesome than Alonso.

Those not old enough to have seen Mølby. That's a shame for you. Godlike in midfield. Penalty master and longshot expert aswell.

Mølby 9.3/10

Alonso 8.7/10

Molby by a mile.Remember having his number put on my Liverpool top and spending hours practising my passing to try and be like him. Met him twice once before we got beat by Brighton in the FA cup back in the 80s and when he was manager for Kidderminster Harriers absolute fucking legend

Alonso, with the best defensive midfielder in the world, and the best all round ball playing midfielder in the world aorund him, still couldn't get us a league title.

It's Molby by an absolute fucking mile.

NB - While this will no doubt be coloured by my view that Alonso is a snidey horrible cunt, I'm pretty confident I'd think this way if I wanked over pictures of him like so many of you do.  I think there's a recency thing here like happens in so many cases.  Molby was amazing. Could pass better than Alonso and had more to his game.  Xabi isn't scoring that goal against Man Utd like Jan did, for example.

You jumped up cunt. Fuck off

It’s funny that this should come up, a few years ago ,the last game of the season I think, we were all having a pre match drink in the back room of the Solly and who should pop in for a couple of lagers than Mr Molby. After photographs and autographs were all done one of the lads said that they had been having a discussion as to who was the best, him or Alonso, Big Jan paused a moment and said “ I must say , he pushed me”, laughter all round, lovely bloke, true story

Molby, wonderful footballer with a killer pass that is without equal, thunderbolt of a shot as well. Didn’t need pace , didn’t need fitness, just pure quality. The great man can often be seen walking his dogs along Moreton shore, I’ve bumped into him any number of times, very approachable as well, always happy to chat. Looks slimmer now than when he played.

Xabi was the most important player in the 2008/9 season. Two games spring to mind. Preston in the Cup, we bossed them for the first half, Xabi goes off at half time, we struggle second. West From away, Xabi on bench for first half and we struggle. Comes on second and we win comfortably.

Xabi controlled games from just in front of the back four and had a great range of passing, was always available.

Jan had more flair and a great passing range but lacked mobility. Didn't play as regularly as you'd wish and may struggle with the pace of the game now.

Difficult but I'd go with Xabi.

Mølby was a bit part player for most of his time here, Alonso was the most important player in the team.

Behave! 240 games across his first eight seasons (despite a few unfortunately-times injuries and a spell at Her Majesty’s Pleasure) indicates otherwise.

He ceased being one of the first names on the teamsheet once the side was reconfigured in 1987, but that’s not the same as being a bit-part player.

Molby was definitely more mobile than Xabi.  Watch that Man United goal, and try to imagine Xabi scoring that.  I love them both, mind.
