No idea if that's true either but well worth a punt at that price. He's only 21 and I think he's the only Eredivisie player in double figures for both goals and assists this season.

His YouTube videos > Brandt’s YouTube videos. Hope that helps.

He is far better than any attacking option we have on the bench.

Irrelevant whether or not he’s better than what we have on the bench. Is he good enough for a squad competing for the major titles? Will he make make us competitive compared to the Manchester teams, Barcelona, Real, Bayern, Juventus and PSG? That’s what matters.

He has the ability for sure.

Not sure whether it is true but apparently he has an £18m release clause. We sent scouts to watch him in the Champions League against Inter earlier on this season.

Him and Brandt who has a release clause of £22m woukd be great business.

No brainer if true.

Seen Grujic being linked to Shalke in the last few days and then today a report that Bayern are interested. I haven't seen him play but his stats look quite good for Hertha and I'm coming around to the idea that he can be a perfectly competent backup for Fabinho next season (who at this point is a guaranteed first XI player).

That means we could get rid of two between Henderson/Lallana/Milner and still be perfectly fine, assuming we're confident that Oxlade-Chamberlain is going to be all the way back.

The point of this line of thinking is that I could see the links to Bruno Fernandes being genuine. 18 goals so far this season and 9 assists, all from midfield. I still believe Keita can give us some goals and assists from midfield, but so far he hasn't and we do need some support in those areas from someone outside the front 3.

Few stories out there that the Mancs are also interested, which if true could be a problem as they'd surely have more money to throw at this problem than we would. But if we could get him and go into next season with Fabinho/Gini/AOC/Keita/Fernandes/Grujic/Shaqiri/Henderson/Jones I think that could start to give City a run in terms of genuine midfield depth.

Bruno Fernandes plays like Messi in the Portuguese League. He's sensational. But we don't know how he'll take to our league. Signing players from Portugal is a genuine risk. Everyone we've signed from there in recent times has been utter shite - Ilori, Meireles and Markovic to name a few.

It's a fair point in general, but Meireles certainly wasn't "utter shite".

Fair point. He was decent for a while under Kenny. The other two were most certainly shite though.

So with a sample size of 3 where 2 were shite, we should avoid signing a potentially great player because of the league he plays in?

Certainly... Slimani is another one who tore up the Portuguese league and failed badly in England. And that Dutch guy - Wolfswinkel?

Haha I forgot about that Wolfswinkel fellow, he was shameful.

All of our signings from Italy were shite too ... until we signed Salah and Alisson.

What I say is that if Edwards wants Fernandes (which to be fair is not a certainty) then he should be encouraged to get him. If we could add a player in midfield who got us another >8 league goals per season it would pretty much complete our team, at least in an attacking sense.

It depends on the player. A player that's played in Portugal up to age 25 is a legitimate risk. It's akin to Davy Klassen winning Dutch Player of the Year before leaving for Everton. He hasn't tested himself at a higher level. I like him by the way, but it does make you pause and think.

All players are a risk, Shevchenko to Chelsea looked like a great deal for them but it ended up much like our sale of Torres to them. Granted standing out in a shite league isn't always enough but usually that's where you get a great deal. A history of 3 players tells us the square root of fuck all.

Falcao

Carvalho

Pepe

Matic

Good examples. The league has regressed though. It's not as good now as it was 10-15 years ago. The days of Porto winning the Champions League or the treble are gone. Bas Dost is like a god in that league nowadays.

On a sidenote, the amount of striker flops at Chelsea under Abramovich is utterly staggering (Shevchenko, Crespo, Torres, Pato, Falcao, Morata, Eto'o, Kezman, Mutu, Lukaku, Remy, Batshuayi). Drogba and Diego Costa are the only two successes they've had during these years.

Not sure I'd agree about Lukaku being a flop there, he was just a kid and not getting many opportunities to prove himself. They also flipped him for a healthy profit.

We wouldn't be looking at someone like Bas Dost anyway because he's nothing but a poacher. Regardless, he's a 6 foot 5 tank who knows where to position himself in the box. That type of player would be successful in lots of leagues.

Clearly talented players who would fit our style like Fernandes, Joao Felix and Militao shouldn't just be discounted because the league is mediocre, though.
