Burns looked a lot better, plus all things considered he's one of the top run scorers during the Ashes series, hope for him yet that he'll make it. Denly has been fucked about a bit, I hope he makes it as he has a decent technique but just can't put a decent total together. I actually feel sorry for Roy, not his fault he was picked for Test cricket, he certainly doesn't look like one though. Like Ali he needs dropping for his own good, otherwise it could affect his overall game and he is still one of the best in the shorter game.

Set up for a cracking day tomorrow, just hope Stokes and Bairstow can come up with a good partnership.

It was actually better from Roy I think against a different attack he could gain confidence and become half decent. Probably not the best attack to start his test career against .

Need to score well over 350 to save this match I don't think just sneaking past the follow on will be enough .

Agree that was the best Burns had batted and much better than his century.

Let's face it we'd have settled for England only losing four wickets in a day ....

Bookies have it as a complete coin toss between lose and draw (60/1 or something for us to win...which is generous). Considering there isn't any rain forecast I'm not sure that's particularly reflective of where I see us in the game!

As Stickman said, we need to be getting at least 350 here and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if we were rolled over for 250 before lunch.

I thought he was pathetic for the ball that did for him, he’s a tip and run merchant for me, never a test batsman

Obviously ended up 1-1 as far as sessions go. Need to fucking dig in tomorrow, getting past that follow on score is paramount.

I wouldn't even bother trying to focus on that. I'd just be looking to get through the day with part of the innings intact. Not going to happen though.

Well if we get to tea we'll have enough runs to make them bat again...positives and all that. It is still a good wicket to bat on, they just had a very good hour with the ball today and England lost their heads a bit.

When was the last time you saw a team actually enforce the follow on? If they can bowl us out in an hour or so tomorrow then maybe it could happen, otherwise I think they’ll bat again but in one day mode and back themselves to get 10 wickets on Sunday.

They wouldn't enforce the follow-on.

Good news for tomorrow lads... me and Brownie meeting for beers.

Cricket is now on the back burner.

Hope you both have an awesome day

Roy is not a test match batsman. Its a fucking disgrace that he's been picked in this test match and put down the batting order just to accommodate him & Denly pushed up to open. Both aren't good enough imo but its shows how much favouritism is going on in english cricket that Roy is given so many chances despite his clear & obvious flaws in basic batting technique at test level. Jobs for the boys yet again. The english selectors are clueless at test match level

Its going to be a tough morning tomorrow with the new ball due soon. Stokes, Bairstow & Butler need to step up and get us past 300 so we're not following on & should we achieve that the Test match should be a draw.  Root or Burns when in needed to make a big hundred, so far that is the difference between the teams. They were unable too while Smith filled his boots.  IMO Root has really regressed as a batsman in recent years

Jason Roy is never a test player, his technique isn’t good enough.

I actually really like Rory Burns, he looks like a proper opener. Yes his technique is strange but it’s effective.

Up until losing those late wickets I was confident that we could get a draw but i’m not sure now.

Like I said earlier, Burns looked much better yesterday. Plus as Stickman said, it was a better innings than the one where he got his century. Apparently he's tweaked his technique, so obviously he's learning quick.

Apart from Smith, Burns is just behind Stokes in third place for runs scored. He's also 4th in the averages behind, Smith, Labuschagne and Stokes.

Interesting stat during this interview with Burns on Sky before play starts.

Burns with 323 runs has outscored all other openers combined this series.

What a beauty that was! Stumps in pieces.

Despite England's inherent ability to collapse, Australia's best chance of getting a win here is enforcing the follow-on if they don't make the target, otherwise it'll be cutting it fine to get them all out with a draw beckoning.
