Is it defo not this Abu Izzadeen bloke? His names all over my Facebook as the terrorist.

Even an article here http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/abu-izzadeen-london-terror-attacks-westminster-who-is-he-police-politicians-a7644626.html

How bizarre, sure when I post that link it was a different article.

Not unless he had some Law Abiding Citizen shit going on.

Virtually everything about this incident is just depressing; from those who lost their lives, their family members and friends who will be devastated, the injuries people sustained, the psychological damage those directly involved will have sustained, the guilt and sadness of the family of the perpetrator, the damage it will do to Britain's reputation as a safe place to come and visit, the increase in fear and distrust in the population, the way it's been reported in the press, the immediate attempts by those with an agenda to piggy back on the tragedy, whether by stating it was attack on our democracy when frankly it was a disgusting rampage or the racist and anti-religious slurring on Facebook.

The response of passers by and the emergency services has been good to see though, we seem to have developed coping strategies for terrorist incidents in the UK mainland/central London that are an improvement from when the IRA and other groups were killing innocents (interesting that technological change has both increased our ability to counter extremism while also spreading those ideologies).

In some ways though it's reassuring in  the sense that terrorists now have to resort to these kinds of attacks.

It seems with Bin Laden gone any semblance of 'a network' has gone with him, as has the money and structure to coordinate complex attacks , they're having no choice now but to do things like drive cars and lorries into people and get shot in the process. You can't stop these attacks any more than you can stop a Joe Cox murder or some spotty teen in Montana pulling a Columbine, it's just a fact of life - it's crime - rather than an end of the world style struggle with terror as it's being painted in some quarters.

It's a new world now where communications and finances are watched and intercepted to such a degree that a network would have to be incredibly sophisticated to pull off a big terror attack. In fact I was thinking about this after McGuinness died, one wonders what kind of success the IRA would have now if they returned to armed attacks, seeing as the security services have moved on to the extent they have, but their terror tactics probably haven't. They'd have wiretaps and Twitter interceptions out the arse before they could even strap on some boot polish and pick up a gun.

Reassuring may not be the best phrasing but I was thinking along the same lines yesterday. If this is the best they can come up with then they aren't all that big. Don't get me wrong it's horrific and anyone who does this kind of thing is a massive cunt but it's hardly a massively intelligent well thought out plan.

The IRA or splinters from it still seem able to do it if they want to. In fact they did so on Tuesday night.

7 people arrested in connection with the attack yesterday in raids across the country.

I don't understand how it took 7 people to plan driving a car and carrying a knife? Or were they just part of the group of people that knew about it and decided it was a good idea? Did they draw the long straws?

Could be providing cash, helping to radicalise, hiring the car or as you say just knowing or providing support.

Fuck knows, probably gone on his phone and found a whatsap group with them all discussing what they were all going to get up to.

As discussed above these aren't exactly high level and sophisticated, they've prob left Intel trails leading everywhere.

Another few hundred people on the watch list in a few days time.

Show of force probably, when a copper goes down dudes get wet. Whenever bad shit happens there's always an arrest soon after, they 'help police with their enquiries' but they're quietly released without charge a few days later, the illusion of progress helping to calm nerves and make it look like the authorities are in control.

Dope on the damn table!

May confirming that attacker was British born and known to intelligence.

Probably be a bit of fall out that he wasn't stopped. But, it's a thankless task for the intel bods, they have to be constantly on the ball, with one minor error having the potential for outcomes like yesterday.

This hits the nail on the head. The illusion of 'boots on the ground' is the first reaction when what's actually needed is more spooks and intelligence bods. Of course this would be if they were really concerned with stopping,or making it more rare, which they obviously are not. Joe nobodies are considered collateral damage to protect the ruling classes way of life.
