Of course it does.

PR only works if the emphasis is on voting for a party. If the emphasis  (as in Corbyn's tweet, which you say you agree with) is on the individual candidate, then FPTP preserves the link between the MP and the constituents.

(At least, that's the theory.)

Edmund Burke wrote the model which is supposed to be followed to this day . MP's are elected as representatives not delegates.

Quote

"Constituents elect their representatives as 'trustees' (or 'entrust' them) for their constituency. ... Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgement; and he betrays, instead of serving you, if he sacrifices it to your opinion".

Oh, right. Well it depends what type of PR you have. Two of the most commonly discussed systems are AV+ and STV with multi member constituencies. AV+ combines constituency elections with a party vote. STV with MMC has large constituencies with several MPs. Although none of this was really my point.

Why hasn't Vince Cable took them into the Lib Dems? Is there some rule that forbids it? because it seems like an obvious open goal for them.

I think in the case of the ex-Labour MPs, they'd be precluded from rejoining the Labour party if they joined another one. Not that they're likely to be welcomed back with open arms as it is...

We got told yesterday that councillors are going to privatise the property function and essentially ship everything out to the likes of Mitie or Kier. Sat in the office and the guy next to me said he's going to vote Labour this time after voting Tory all his life. Having listened to years of anti-Labour diatribes from most people I work with and him, Is it okay to think he's a cunt?

They will be when Corbyn throws his hand in and Fatty Watson takes over!

It won't matter if Corbyn starts a new party off. I think he should go for either the CCC - Corbyn Communist Crew, or the CAA - Corbyn Allotment Anarchists. I think he should convert to Judaism too.
