Steven Caulker

My biggest cause for concern is that Koeman decided to terminate his season long loan at saints after he couldn't get in the team over Yoshida playing out of position.

They're all delighted he's left early and baffled by Liverpool signing him.

Even though this is only a loan and an emergency signing because we don't even have one fit centre back and he was probably the only one we could get in time for tomorrow, I will use this opportunity to call all members of the transfer committee retarded for not considering Thiago Silva or Jerome Boateng. I think this is also a sign that Klopp will always be marginalized in the transfer market and that he clearly has been duped by FSG. The transfer committee will have all the power.

I also think that this 5 month emergency loan is also completely indicative of how far we have fallen as a club and that, entirely because of Steven Caulker, we will fall further into despair and we'll soon find ourselves fighting off relagation in League Two with the likes of York City and Yeovil.

Fuck it on a loan so no risk especially given our situation with injuries.

He gives us more options now instead of Enrique or Lucas.

Pretty much my thinking.

Five months won't be long enough to turn him into a player, but he'll fill a shirt while the real centre backs get back to fitness.

I'll go back and read the thread. Just catching up here. My first reaction to this is that it could be a very shrewd signing. He looked a very good player a year or two back, and then for whatever reason (I honestly don't know whether he was injured, or just fell out of favor or form or whatever) but he lost his way a little.

He's only 24, has decent pace, is good in the air, and, presumably, will be hungry to make an impression. Given our dearth of options at centre back, he is a welcome addition. Goes above Ilori and Toure in the pecking order immediately, and then depending on who is fit and on form, he may well get a number of games.
