The Doss signs for leyton orient!

Andrea Dossena: Leyton Orient sign ex-Liverpool defender

Struggling League One side Leyton Orient have signed former Liverpool, Napoli and Sunderland full-back Andrea Dossena until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Italy international was a free agent after leaving the Black Cats at the end of last season.

Dossena, who can also play in midfield, scored against Manchester United and Real Madrid while he was at Liverpool.

He could make his debut for the O's in Saturday's FA Cup first-round fixture against Oldham.

Dossena joined Liverpool for £7m in July 2008 and scored in the Reds' 4-0 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League in March 2009 and then again in their 4-1 away victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

The Italian, who won 10 caps, joined Napoli in January 2010 before a spell at Sunderland in 2013-14.

Orient are 20th in League One after only winning one of their last eight league games.

Article from TIA looking at proper Defensive players to pick up as their contracts wind down instead of Delph (who would be a bit pointless while we have five players who can play in that central pairing at a good level).

Khedira - Yes please, expensive and will be other clubs after him so expect disappointment

De Jong - No thanks, used to be good but he's not the player he was.

Toulalon - Might be a good fit, even if he is getting on a bit to step into Premiership football.

Flamini - Fuck off.

Mulumbu - Could be a shrewd pickup, rated him as a real competitor and could be the man to allow our other midfielders to press forward more as he covers so much ground.

But hey, we all know what we need, the rumours of Real and PSG being open to offers for Illarramendi and Cabaye are fucking no brainers. Won't hold my breathe but, come on...

We have to sign a real Defensive Midfielder. Chelsea is a good model to follow, I think. With Cahill and Terry they are pretty immobile, but with Matic protecting them they have a solid spine - their fullbacks are solid, too.

With the back sorted, they are free to attack with a mobile midfield. We have the same conditions minus a real DM.

TAW alluded to us missing out on a DM towards the end of the last window, anyone know who that was rumoured to be? I'm guessing Song.

I doubt it. He was being touted around all summer. In the end Barca were prepared to let him leave without a loan fee.

If we wanted him we would have got him.

I'll scout for 1% commission of future sales, plus fuel, and a big black Merc.

South/ South West.

I can keep my eye out for the best talent in Indiana! There's a little 8 year old lad with an eye for goal. Left foot, right foot, no problem.

Liverpool Sack THREE Scouts After Summer Transfer Disasters

Liverpool’s owners have lost patience with the club’s scouts after another disastrous transfer window.

Liverpool have sacked three of their scouts, with the club looking to overhaul their scouting system as part of the rebuilding process following a terrible start to the season.

According to the Guardian, scouts Alan Harper, Mel Johnson and Mike McGlynn have been released by the club.

The Reds’ summer signings have struggled almost universally, and the team’s poor start to the season hasn’t been helped by their poor recruitment policy.

Mario Balotelli has yet to score in the league after arriving for £16m from AC Milan, Alberto Moreno has been directly at fault for two goals already, Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana have been overwhelmingly mediocre. Dejan Lovren has been a disaster at the back and Emre Can has barely played.

And that’s only from this summer. Mamadou Sakho, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet are all well into their second season without showing the quality necessary to become top Premier League players.

Brendan Rodgers must take a portion of the blame for okaying the transfers, but clearly the scouting network in place at the club has not been good enough. Liverpool’s owner John W Henry, is a billionaire with a good business sense, and he clearly thinks the scouting network needs an overhaul.

Considering the players the club have brought in over the last three summers, it’s hard to disagree.

Sacking the scouts, and publicising that fact, is pretty shithouse. Seems to be some serious passing of bucks at LFC. Responsibly for signings begins and ends with the manager, I find it astounding that anyone would sanction a 20 million spend based purely on a scouting report, and I doubt very much you'd need scouts to run the rule over Southampton players. Which scout spotted Stirridge then and why haven't had a guardian story about him being a good scout?

I hope the last window has taught Fenway that unless they're prepared to offer top, top, wages to players like Costa, we're never going to consistently be up there. Attracting those players may prove difficult, but they're the ones that make the difference. Look at their business in the summer compared to ours. Nobody shoots themselves in the foot like us. Nobody.
