Mignolet

Mignolet made 3 very good saves within 4 minutes around the 20 minute mark of the game. Hazard, Drinkwater and Zapacosta check the highlights. Courtois nearly spooned a shot by Sturridge into his goal.

In fairness, the first and the third of those saves you mention were routine for any keeper.

Those flukes like yesterday can beat the very best of keepers, so I'm not pinning any blame on Mingolet for that personally. I do however find it ironic, that a keeper who is normally rooted to his line is caught out in the fashion he was.

Reina had a prolonged poor spell.

His last 6 months though he’d sorted himself out and played to a level Mig has never achieved on a consistent basis.

We got rid of Reina at the owners insistence because of his wages.

Form had fuck all to do with it.

I'm talking about Reina at his worst.

Mignolet hasn't even reached those levels yet.

Not disputing either points.

I just think Reina form is often overlooked by those looking back.

So Mig has got to mark all of the forwards too now , seems fair enough. I'm sure if he had stood at the far post next to the 2 forwards and Willian knocked it in the near post everybody on here would have applauded his positioning.

If he'd stood 3 feet to the right of where he was, he would have had his near post covered, been able to deal with any cross to the two Chelsea players and been well placed to get more than fingertips on Willian's mishit cross.

Good goalkeepers know where to stand.

This sentence sums up the whole Mignolet thread.

Reinas distribution was outstanding, something we really miss. The amount of times he found the likes of Torres in dangerous positions was worth so many goals to us. Imagine those raking passes with Mane, Salah on the break. Mignolets kicking is awful.

Very good point this. I think this is down to Mignolet, but also to the rest of the team and the coaching team. Quite a few times this season Mignolet has appeared to be looking for options to start the quick break, but not finding any. Last season he didnt't even seem to try.

If we were any good at this we should be able to score 5-10 a season from those kind of counter attacks alone.

He is actually a bit better on crosses these days. The only thing he’s better than average at is penalty saving. He’s also decent at long range shots.

Karius is a bit crap at those, plus bad at crosses. Probably better at close range saves and definitely at reading when to come out. And both of them seem to have mental issues.

It’s not really a great choice to have. Karius is probably the most disappointing signing we’ve made under Klopp. It shouldn’t have been hard to be better than Mignolet.

I'm a little bit disappointed with Karius too but its difficult to gauge the actual ability of a player who spends less time in position than a tampax. Under normal circumstances you would say he has time on his side but it seems that only Mignolet is given the chance to redeem himself from his mistakes quickly, yet keeps making them. I blame our fanbase for not giving time to anybody to settle into a side that is always going to be playing catch up no matter how we shuffle our pack. Top four is over excelling at our current level and expecting any real title challenge is simply down to manager raising expectations beyond our actual abilities.

He’s a better goalkeeper than Firmino is a striker IMO. Firmino is an attacking midfielder and should play there. His refusal to take responsibility with the ball in the second half was one of the main reasons Sevilla managed to come back from three goals down.

Just now seen this.

Potentially one of the worst football related posts this forum's ever seen.

Salah has massively weakened us this year.

Need to bin him and put mane back on the right.

Coutinho on the left front 3, only way to make things better.

Still got to pick Firmino as we have a plethora of shit strikers so no getting around that.

Was hopeless tonight and only abysmal finishing and a moment of extreme generosity from Atkinson prevented a disaster, He has to go

He had one bad point with the charge to the edge of the box and wild kick. People trying to blaming him pushing the ball clear for Stokes off side miss is laughable. I would agree we need a better keeper but not because of much tonight.

Their goal today epitomised the problem.

Henderson was stupid, but it wasn't a penalty.

I'm referring to the lack of faith in the keeper, Mignolet shouted for it But Can thought the safer option was to head it behind.

That pretty much sums up what it must be like to be a defender in front of him.
