Doom 25th Anniversary

As Doom is 25 years old, it's a good time to honour this game with a thread of it's own. And with the new version coming out soon, it's a good time to see Doom in it's original form. I remember playing it on PC when I used to work in IT and we had an early form of computer networking in our place of work. We used to play Doom regularly and it was enormous fun. But we were under strict instructions to Alt-Tab out of Doom and into our work applications if any management walked past the office. We became experts. However one day management had a big client in and they were being shown around the offices. They opened the door so quietly and being so en…

I need to build a simple, transactional web site. I've got a business bank account and I'll need to link that to the payment section on the site. It just needs to be a simple site for now and someone recommended Freewebstore but fuck me, I cannot get my head around it. What's the simplest free web service available?

Just got one of these cheap(ish). Has anyone hacked one of these? I've gone round in circles online which is full of conflicting or out of date advice. I've actually made the first step and it is now hacked but I've got no idea how to do the rest - i.e. put free stuff on there. Anyone done one? (I'm guessing not but thought I'd ask).

Anyone got a decent system they can recommend or a company who do a decent supply and fit? Twats near ours have been going round and trying cars and house doors over the past few months and now becoming a regular thing. Mine and my brothers house have the Ring doorbells and he recorded two lads this morning at 3am snooping round his front garden. They even rang my ma's doorbell at 2.30am round the corner probably in the hope someone would open the door and they could storm in. Need something a bit more robust than the Ring, happy to pay a few hundred quid.

Anyone recommend a good place for a lap top repair ? Mine started making clicking and beeping noises last night. It attempted to repair it's self but couldn't. It gave the option for a factory reset which I did but it's still fucked. It's a Toshiba and I've had it from new for 2.5 years. Or should I just buy a new one ?

Just a heads up to everyone who's on sky; I have had sky for years but last year I phoned up to cancel because I never watched it, except for BBC and the odd match on SLY sports. Anyway, a couple of weeks after I cancelled (before the sky actually went off due to the month in advance) they called me up to ask if I would like to come back to sky for a year on half the price. I accepted the deal, then they informed me I could add any other packages (movies etc) for half price also. There was one catch, If I didnt cancel within the half price year I would automatically be put on a 12 month full price deal. Anyway, the half price year finishes next month so I…

Can't believe it's 20 years since this game was released. Still my favourite game to this day with themes that were way ahead of its time. Bearing in mind it was pre 9/11, there were no twin towers on the New York skyline, there was a virus on the loose, and the government was being manipulated by a shadowy 'one world government' type organisation. China was being vilified by the West, AI and body augmentations were also becoming part of everyday society, as was hacking, while the government were doing heinous shit under the guise of anti terror measures. This was back in age when trust in the government and conspiracy theory talk was very different than it i…

Any of you nerds know where I can get a copy of MS Office as freeware or anything? Doesn't have to be recent, 2007 would do nicely. I rarely use it so not fussed about how recent the version is.

Anyone here running Ubuntu? I've recently made the switch due to my laptop being on its last legs and I thought I could put an extra spring in its step. However I'm having a few issues and was wondering if there is anyone on here with experience in Ubuntu who could make the transition a little smoother.

Always interested to know what other people waste I mean spend their time on. So, mine: Nintendo Switch - Probably my main system due to being able to play it in front of the telly in docked mode, or just anywhere in portable mode. Nintendo Wii - I modded this a few years ago. Runs many hundreds of Snes, Nes and Megadrive games. Also runs Gamecube games off an SD memory card. It is supposed to run Wii games off a card but i've only managed to do that a couple of times (would need to buy an externally powered USB drive. Maybe one day). My 5 year old loves playing the motion control games - I still think the Wii is a brilliantly fun machine. …

Been getting into my walking during the Covid-19, spending my hours exercise taking a stroll and think when the lockdown is lifted I'll get into my walking/hiking. I've downloaded MapMyWalk but wondering if any other, better, apps of a similar ilk out there? I've got my Samsung watch to record heart rate but the Samsung Health app is shite for anything else.

Is there anybody with a Switch interested in me having them whip their asses during these most boring of times? Having never set one of these up, do we just need to arrange an evening & then share our friend codes? If we have the Switch app we can then shout obscenities at each other. Anybody interested?
