Brendan Rodgers and the transfer market

The quotes are the quotes, nothing baseless about that.

What quotes? I picked out somebody saying he has lost the players and you backing it up with nonsense. Of course it's conjecture.

Pochettino underlined how much work is needed to establish more positive form. “We are very disappointed and frustrated for the result and performance. We need to improve a lot,” he said. “We need to improve quickly. You never have a lot of time in football. We need to find a solution and change mentality in the next few weeks. That is my challenge.”

I'd like to see Rodgers say something like that, rather than complain about where players want to live. Take some responsibility for the performance on the pitch.

How much would you give him in January to get us back in the top 4?

January is a shit time to buy. Clubs dont want to sell and you end up paying an inflated price. That's something people complain about (inflated price).

It depends who is available and whether they'd make a material difference to the team. To be honest, Im not convinced spending money in Jan will benefit the team in any way.

I think the manager needs to play the hand he has. Im convinced he could improve the defending if he perhaps swallows his pride and brings in a better defensive coach or tightens the games up. It wont be pretty to watch but if we stop conceeding silly goals the number of defeats will lessen.

He's also got to stop playing one up top in my opinion. Im hoping he plays sturridge and balotelli not just sturridge.

The owners have to look at this transfer committee. None of us knows its full remit, how targets are identified, who decides what to pay etc. We need to stop buying quantity and look at quality.

There's no quick fix in football and its often a series of changes that brings about improvement.

I actually think a fair few of the players like Rodgers, but according to Danny Murphy they were not impressed with the Real Madrid fiasco. I can imagine they were not happy with being thrown under the bus about the Newcastle game, when the manager was the most clueless for that fixture. There are a few rumours knocking about, hopefully they are just made up, that I will not give any credence to, for now.

If ever there was any doubt about the true identity, it's unveiled itself there.  It can't help itself.

Share some of the blame for what?

Newsflash. The club doesn't give a shit about what we think, it conducts business regardless.

Building everything we do up, as either the greatest thing in the world ever, or the shittest thing in the world ever.

We were never going to be challenging after signing those players. Never.

I couldn't understand why some on here were saying it was an excellent transfer window given we had sold Suarez and purchased the players we did. I didn't, however, expect us to be quite as bad as we have been.

I pretty much did. I said on a few occasions we'd be back in the top 8 as opposed to top 2, because that's where our signings were. I do, however, think Markovic and Emre will be cracking players in a couple of years, but by that time, we'll no doubt be in a rebuilding project again, and probably with a new manager.

Ripe for the likes of Chelsea and city to come and cherry pick from.

“We have signed talented young players and I’m sure over the time – whether that’s with me here or not – they will show that they are very good players.“We know what targets we wanted and what was out there, but for one reason or another they are not here and gone elsewhere. We work with what we’ve got and look to improve what we’ve got and get back to somewhere near the level we’ve shown over the last 18 months."

Found this worrying, on a number of levels.

He isn't sure whether he'll still be at the club when the signings prove to be good players? Can't help feel that he is either already regretting signing them, or that he would have preferred to sign some experienced players more likely to hit the ground running. Then basically admitting everyone was second choice at best. "We work with what we've got", come on, for fuck sake, you haven't just taken over at Mansfield. We've got one of the best squads in the country, and you spent over a hundred million quid on it in the summer.

Liverpool must try harder to attract top players. Not really sure why that's controversial.

It's not but he is now saying that hopefully the new signings will develop into top players slightly different from the "I'm certain they'll be great players for Liverpool Football club" he was saying a few weeks ago. That along with him ruefully reflecting on our ability to sign established stars sounds like the start of blame game to me .

Anyway the title of this thread reminds me of a fairy tale. Young Brendan is sent off with the family cow and returns with a handful of beans.

Got to agree with the gist of this. Worrying tone and words from Rodgers. He seemingly likes to apportion blame and I hate that trait in people.

Some people worry far too much.

I dunno, mate. What we are witnessing is pretty fucking worrying. I think Rodgers will turn it round for sure but I can't believe we've fallen this far, in terms of performance if nothing else. I realise there are obvious mitigating circumstances but I think it's all a little concerning at the moment.

Saying that, a run of 2 or 3 wins puts us right back up there, in my view.

In fairness to Rodgers i think he's talking about missing out on players like Costa, Sanchez and William who we were in for and decided to go to London. Any of those three would have instantly improved us.

It dos'nt explain how clubs like Southmampton and Swansea seem to have improved with the signings they've made though.

Where do you rank our squad in Premier League terms, Jairzinho? Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United have better squads, in my opinion.

We have spent over £200ml in the past three years any issues with the squad at this point is on Rodgers and the scouts.

Fuck, I'm going to stop reading the football forums for a bit.

If you hate this bit...

I hate the trait of making things up, phrasing them if they're facts, then running with it to discredit people.

...you may as well never return. Cos the creation of straw men props up any e-debate on a forum.
