  1. Yeah, I've listened to it now. It'll be a slip of the tongue. He needs to retract and apologise obviously, as does the BBC presenter for not pulling it up at the time, but lets not go overboard and start accusing him of Hillsborough lies. I'd be 99.99999% sure he knows the truth and doesn't believe in any way that it was hooliganism. Tyler is a twat, and a shite, boring commentator. But I'd be vey surprised if he's a Hillsborough denier.

  2. I agree that the problem with comments like his is they fuel the fire of the deniers. So he absolutely needs to clarify and apologise, although the damage will be done already by his stupid error. And people are rightly angry. They should be. But I really hate this general world attitude that people can't make mistakes just because they are paid well, or in a job where they speak? Like that somehow gives them the ability to never err again?. And one of the reasons I hate it (aside from the obvious human one) is if Klopp, an extremely accomplished communicator, inadvertently said something offensive, we'd all be on here demanding everyone accept it was just a mistake. Just because we don't like the guy (and I don't like the guy) doesn't mean we get to dive in with both feet and assume the worst. I hate the modern world of how we are all lining up to slaughter and hate someone and forgiveness just isn't an option without a head rolling. If he comes back and properly apologies and clarifies (i.e. not a "sorry if you were offended", but a proper confirmation he knows Hillsborough wasn't hooliganism, and it was just an error) for what I suspect is a genuine slip of the tongue, then that should be that. Lets just go back to hating his crap commentary.

  7. Me neither. And Im sorry(!) but why are people making excuses for him saying his comments were' clumsy' or not intended? I mean WTF? We've been fighting the narrative over Hillsborough since 1989. Despite 2 inquiries, FA and Government apologies, (have SYP apologised yet?) we are still fighting the bigots and morons today over it. Only a few months ago in Paris the narrative of Liverpool fans, hooligans and Hillsborough were used again to deflect the blame onto us. Sorry, Hillsborough really affects me. I couldnt even watch Anne because of the haunting memories it would bring back. That stain was talking about 30 years of the PL and at a stroke, he linked Hillsborough and us with hoolies. Hillsborough was an FA event not in the Prem so why does he mention it? because it's fucking hard to keep his pretence under cover and not let the mask drop for 30 years, that's fucking why.

  9. It's a shame he's such a cunt as he was quite close to a very valid point that in many ways Hillsborough was a huge factor in the creation of the abomination we know as the Premier League. They used the disaster to completely over sanatise & Americanise the sport & create this fucking circus they are still developing today. That cunt Kelly had a huge shareholding in the plastics company who made the seats as well if I remember correctly too. A fucking racket. Not that he would mention any of that given he's complicit & also a complete and utter cunt.

In my last job I had to regularly visit Cuckmere Haven. Like a geography lesson everyday that place, cliff falls, coastal erosion and river course/flooding changes

  16. There's not a Tory supporting paper or pundit that wasn't aware long before this video leak of this change to the formula and how revenues were shifted from deprived Labour regions to comfortable Tory areas, yet its only become a thing now that the Truss supporters want Sunak to suffer. I hope he does. But I also hope that people, especially working class Tories in deprived cities realise this is a Tory thing, something that was successfully done by a Tory chancellor in a Tory government.

  17. I can't stand Tyler. BUT... I honestly just think he misspoke there. I don't believe he deliberately conflated the two issues at all. It's not beyond all reasonable doubt that he did. His emphasis and cadence could have been different. He could have said *OTHER*... hooligan related issues. However, he's immediately come out an apologised for it. Anyone who is furious about this and wants him fucked off for good, I have no issue with. But I believe it's an honest mistake. Either way, he needed to be more conscious about the sensitivities of this issue when talking about it at all.

  19. Because they were more than likely clumsy and not intended? And it's not excuses, it's commenting on what I think. If he comes out and says "sorry if you were offended but I'm entitled to my view" then I'll change that opinion and hammer him. The rest of what you've said is 100% right, but doesn't mean what he said wasn't clumsy or not intended. If it was then we can't just lump him in with McKenzie or Thatcher or Clough or SYP. That diminishes their purposeful slurs and they hate they have spread. Hillsborough is so understandably emotive, but we have to keep our brains switched on in situations like this and not want to go to the worst case immediately. If he fully apologises for a stupid slip, then people have to be able to move on from that. We can't live in a world where everything is punishable by death.

  20. I had Martin Tyler fatigue, I was so fed up with his 'commentary' that I'd gone beyond hating him. Needless to say that has changed today. Hopefully he is torn apart online & the club make an official complaint to his employers about him. The man is a fucking disgrace.

  22. Tbh I think part of the problem is there is no mandatory study if economics in schools. We have huge amounts of people who are so economically illiterate, don't know what GDP means and think a nations economy can be compared to a house hold budget and credit cards. We have a lack of critical thinking tought and debate brought down to lazy 3 word slogans / lowest common denominator / misty eyed recollections of "better times" like during the war, or the 70s. Yeah never mind that ww2 cost countless lives and we had rationing for years after or the 70s when we were the dirty man of europe and utterly broken. I could go on but I am ranting now. Dyslexic and not checked post so prob funny me whinging about literacy when I can't even spell without checker

  26. I’m sure the Paul McGrath autobiography has been mentioned in this thread and many others. His daughter in law is good mates with the missus and he’s in a good place at the moment. He has a positive relationship with his son and is actively involved with the grandkids. Not sure why I mention it but it really moved me hearing that last night.

  31. The whole self interest around football is stomach churning at times. We can look back at the relegation threatened null and void brigade in the pandemic, who were quick to be self righteous about super league. The super league it's self. Fuck me. And you have to question the sanity of all of the owners who were involved when they wanted Perez and agnelli to be at the front of it all. Then we see the distain uefa show fans at both the major European finals this year and their reaction of blaming everyone but themselves. And this is all before any discussion about abhorrent nation states using the game to clean their image. Football is proper fucked.

  32. When it suits Tyler and Sky they're just as fast. If a young footballer tweets a stupid statement they'll all pile on his back in the most public way possible. If fans are heard chanting the wrong thing they'll be condemned over and over again by Tyler and all his fellow virtue-signalling hypocrites. Then there's the 'terrible' booing of an anthem. This current 'issue' is just the kind of thing that Tyler would happily shake his head and sneer about if it happened to someone else. It's karma. His job is to talk quickly on air ('and it's live!') whilst policing himself for dubious remarks. He's not some occasional interviewee who hadn't yet woken up. This is a moral lesson for him, but, as he's never learned from all the previous ones, it won't change him now.

  33. 1 - "The fascist Brits who introduced democracy to Ireland". - you're incorrect. They introduced "democracy" for British people in Ireland, with a parliament in England overseeing the decisions. Irish people had very limited voting capabilities and those they could vote for had British interests at heart. Some "Democracy", but fair play to you for trying to re-write history. In 1613, in order to approve the seizure of Catholic owned land for ‘plantations’ or settlement of Protestant colonists, electoral boundaries were redrawn to give Protestants a majority. Catholics (around 80% of the population) were banned from holding public office (from the House of Commons in 1691 and from the Lords in 1716) and banned from voting altogether in 1728.[1] This began to change in 1793, when Catholics and all male property holders of over 40 shillings were allowed to vote for the Irish Parliament. Still at this stage only Protestants could hold office. Constituencies were also very unevenly distributed. 2 - This is your direct post "faced with an imperialistic and fascistic neighbour that wants to overturn their democracy and supplant their native culture" - Exactly what Britain did. They being an imperialistic state (Britannia rules the waves remember?) literally planted British people onto Irish land and eradicated Irish customs and language. It's why most Irish people speak English now. So you're incorrect again. 3 - "Ireland has, however, had independence for a century". Again you're incorrect. "The constitution adopted by the Irish people in 1937 declared Ireland to be “a sovereign, independent, democratic state,” and the Irish Free State was renamed Eire. Eire remained neutral during World War II, and in 1949 the Republic of Ireland Act severed the last remaining link with the Commonwealth." So they had a staggered independence until they officially became a Republic in 1949. In 1922 they only had self-governing status, no different to some of what Wales currently has. 4 - "The "Brits" are out of Ireland already." - again incorrect. If I have to even explain this to you then we're totally lost and I may as well speak to a bucket of piss. Impressive how much you got wrong in one single post. I admire someone who can be spectacularly wrong in so few words. The Dunnin-Kruger effect comes to mind? I'll just pop your initial post below once again, just to expose the sort of absolute bollocks hypocrisy you are well capable of chatting at times. "Special attention should always be given when an indigenous people, tied to the land for thousands of years, are faced with an imperialistic and fascistic neighbour that wants to overturn their democracy and supplant their native culture, presence and language."

  44. I was in Tesco a few days ago waiting at the till, I probably only had about dozen items. One of the workers comes up to me and says "Can you go and use one of the automated tills please?". I said "I'd rather not thanks". She asked again, almost pleadingly. I told her I'd rather not contribute to people losing their jobs, and the things never fucking work anyway and require a human to come and sort out a speck of dust being in the baggage area or whatever. She quietened her voice and said, "We have to ask". It was utterly tragic. They have to actively promote their own job demise.
