Andy Carroll, what does he do?

I'm sorry, I disagree. I'm fairly certain that with some proper scouting we could get a more rounded player in a similar mould, and not a knock down specialist (which is what Carroll is) for that amount (work permit permitting).

On the other hand, Carroll, much like Henderson, does have all the physical attributes to be an excellent player, and doesnt hide or shirk about putting in a shift defensively, not to mention he was purchased as a long term investment. He does need some coaching on control, and his vision is lacking, but there IS a player in there somewhere as we saw in the FA cup Semi and Final. He could be a late bloomer, like Drogba was, but probably not on that level.

So you are firmly on the fence about it then...

We're not a "top, top side" though.

In part because of Carroll. If we want to be a top side, we need to get rid of those not good enough to be a player in a top side and replace them with players who are.

Easy this football lark.

Part of the reason we have stagnated so much is that we have targeted players who are decent and can do a job and work hard and that would be an important cog in a side filled with excellence in other spots......but we keep forgetting to target that excellence as well. So we end up with team of decent enough pros who just sort of muddle around waiting for someone to take charge.

I have no doubt Henderson could be a member of a Top 4 side if we had enough quality elsewhere on the pitch. But holding a spot for him in preference to taking the chance on getting in actual quality match-winners seems to be a backwards way of doing it.

Get your spine first, leave the youths and decent squad players to fight it out for the remaining spots based on form and fitness.

I think in recent seasons we've always had the "Spine" right, it's always the sqaud players we can't seem to get right...

Pepe

Agger/Skrtel

Gerrard

Suarez

Our midfield has been shit since we lost Alonso and Masherano, we've been looking for wingers since god knows when and not since Fowler and Owen have we had 2 world class strikers in the team..

I never wanted Carroll before he arrived and for the most part have been dismayed at his performances but he did look a better player for the last few games of the season and he did OK for England in the EC.

Rodgers talking about offloading him before he has played a game for him would seem a little premature. As has been pointed out selling him wouild be difficult given the loss we would suffer and his wages would be a problem for the teams prepared to take him on loan so why openly discuss this now ? Its only going to be an unwelcome distraction and hardly do wonders for Carrolls confidence which after an age does seem to improving. I do actually feel a little sorry for the lad as he has been trying to improve and his season is fucked up before it even starts

Pretty much sums up my feelings about him

I'ld be gobsmacked if we loan him out , why would we do that ? theres no logic to it.

Fair enough if hes not in Rodgers plans , sell him then but dont loan him out , how does loaning him out benefit us ? its not as if we have an abundance of strikers.

I'ld be dissapointed to see him sold , i was sick to death of him last season but he won me over in the end , if that header had counted he would of had an FA Cup final named after him as he/we would of finished them off in ET.......... its a load of bollocks that we have to be route one to accomodate him , he proved he has a nice touch and can play , we need quality wide men like we always have ........ i do agree he has his faults like awareness and anticipation but he should be way down the list of players to be shown the door , he deserves a chance this season unlike some.

i agree i really do think with the right guidance he can be up there with the best but thats if our managers stop smashing his confidence every time he starts to come good KK did it and now BR is on the same track.

if BR is as good as people says he is with man management and getting the best out of players then he wont have a problem making big andy a top striker

To save as much of 77k a week as we can? To avoid the training ground awkwardness of trying to fit a round peg in a square hole? To dodge the question of his current value?

I don't think he will go out on loan as those who might take him, if the deal were right, would be our direct competitors fighting for an EL spot.

There is rumours starting to appear that West Ham have made contact with us for a season long loan.

They will pay 100% of his wages and a set £15 million future fee if they buy him.

Andy Carroll's former agent said on Twitter months ago that if West Ham come up then don't be surprised if they make a move for Carroll as he shares the same agent Fat Sham and Nolan... At the time he came over as a bitter bastard but there maybe something in it after all...

How has Brendan made such a quick decision on a young player who has years to improve without even working with him, he is an asset to us in money terms atleast but it is being made out we want 2 get rid at all costs.

This is happening while Joe Cole who is worthless and has been finished for years is getting another chance.

Even if Carroll stayed on bench for us all next season he is worth 15m,why we are making out we are drsperate to get rid I dont know, its not as if we are overloaded with strikers. Also borini for Carroll is a downgrade imo.

Fuck it we should tell them £20M and take him now. They aint going to pay £15m for him. When have they ever paid more than £10M for a player?

Or Rodgers has served him notice that he has to improve?

How Carroll responds to this will be interesting: bail out and go to West Ham where there's less pressure; or stay and fight for his place in the side. I hope Carroll stays and that Rodgers can help him improve his game.

Because anybody with half a brain would realise he's fucking shit. He has no qualities that a player would require to play in a fast moving passing team.

He's fucking shit, people say he improved but how could he get any worse? People where using GIFs of a horse falling over an exercise ball to sum up his play - could it get any worse than that?

He's so shit, he will never be good enough for Liverpool - doesn't it say something where every team in England knows he could be bought for a cut price but nobody wants him.

Players like him are the reason the club has been so bad over the last 2 seasons, there are players in the reserves and youth team better than him. We made a mistake, lets fuck him off and move on.

Yeah, pretty much this. Fuck quibbling over a few million quid. Take whatever we can for him in this window. Best for us. Best for him. Buy some strikers with pace, movement and a good first touch.

Same goes for Adam and Downing. Neither are good enough, so fuck them off. Move on.
